Week one of marathon training is complete! While I know the miles will add up fast, I feel like I am having a slow start. Going from trying to run 5 miles a few days a week and a long run over the weekend – to running less mileage during the week with the long run on the weekend – is a bit of a change. All a part of the process…from what I hear!
Workout Recap
Marathon Training – Week 1
Actual workouts
Sunday- 3.32 miles
36 minute run
4 minute walk
After a long day cleaning and playing, I sent the little guy with the hub to the store and I head out to hit the pavement before dark! Also, a runner in “holiday gear” for #runchathunt find (yep, that’s me!)
Monday- 2.5 miles
30 minute run
5 minute walk
We finally had our first snow! I was planning on doing the interval workout, but waking up late and the fresh snow, I decided that the “easier” workout would be better today. Also, final #runchathunt find – snowflakes (the real kind)!
Tuesday- nothing scheduled – REST DAY!
Well, this was a rest day – that should have been a cross training day, whoops! I was only checking my watch for training/running days and didn’t realize that cross training days wouldn’t come up… Live and learn…and check the written plan more often!
Wednesday- 3.87 miles
30 minute run
10 minute walk
Time for a good night run (since the little man is with the grandparents) with my new light vest!
Thursday- nothing scheduled – REST DAY!
Again, I missed a yoga/stretching workout day – but that’s alright. I did aimlessly stretch throughout the day, but did not dedicate time to deep stretching.
Friday- 2.6 miles
30 minute run
3 minute
After wasting the day away working around the house, I drove back to KC to pick up the little man. Once in town, I got in a quick run!
Saturday- 10 miles
90 minute run
56 minute walk
I started a bit later than planned…and over estimated my current fitness level – ran a new route, saw turkeys, phone died, ran more, and when my GPS beeped that my 90 minute workout was over, I was still 3 miles from home… Oh well! I decided to walk the rest of the way home.
Weekly Miles: 22.3 miles
Weekly Minutes: 294 minutes (4.9 hours)

For a moment, I thought your Friday’s picture was a x-ray of your feet. I thought “OH NO!”
LOL. I’m glad it’s not. I’m impressed with your very detailed training plan. Is that something you created yourself? I’m wrapping up my unconventional marathon training and will see how that goes this weekend. I haven’t made any other plans for 2016 yet but hope after a few weeks rest, I can get back to normal training and routine. Which Garmin is that? Thanks for linking with us. I hope to see you again next week!

I am using a marathon plan from Garmin – it will at least give me a starting point for training 🙂 I plan on working with the Smart Pacing team this year to get more 1/2 marathons under my belt and help others achieve their goals. The Garmin Marathon is in KC – Olathe, KS specifically 🙂

Sounds like you’re off to a good start! I’m in the midst of my big race now (Dopey!). After this, I’ll take a little break before training for the Syracuse Half – but my big goal race for the year is the NYC Marathon :).
