Workout Recap

Marathon Training – Week 3

Week3-completed.jpg

Sunday-  recovery run scheduled

While this day called for a recovery run, I just wasn’t able to get out – kept close to home for a lazy Sunday.

Monday-   2.9 miles + 5 miles

125 minute total run
10 minute total walk

I decided to make up for the missed Sunday recovery run – and run both workouts on Monday! Not a horrible decision since both workouts were “easy, recovery” runs – a shorter morning run and a longer lunch run.

Tuesday- 1.76 “workout” miles + 5.15 running miles

40 minute morning workout
57 minute run
3 minute walk

I woke up a little later than I would have liked…and so I decided to use my morning for a DVD Insanity Pure Cardio session (which I should be doing more of anyway).

I then move my scheduled run to lunch time (since it is shorter and not a hard workout for today).

Wednesday-  5.5 miles

60 minute run
5 minute walk

I got out early enough for a full morning run! While this is just the norm for a lot of runners…it has been super hard for me to get out before work since the cold is super cold lately! So many posts and support on the 2,016 in 2016 group has pushed me to just get up and get out!

Since I had workout clothes at work and needed a break, I decided to go for a super slow (for me) run around the area for lunch…not necessary to my training, but I just felt like going for a jaunt! And the weather!! How is it 54 degrees in the middle of January?! Yes…I took full advantage of the beautiful day!

Thursday- rest day or yoga on the schedule

While I was fully prepared to take a rest day and morning or evening yoga session, this day had its own plans! What kind of runner doesn’t go out for a run when it is 55 degrees in January?! I think I would have regretted not getting out for a run on a day as nice as this!

Friday-  5.02 miles

59 minute run
5 minute walk (back to my desk)

I decided to not run in the morning and went for a longer-than-scheduled recovery run.

Saturday- 11.25 miles + 0.9 mile walk

150 minute run
16 minute walk

Slow and steady – and cold – was how this run went. I wasn’t worried about the time it took – I just kept the pace nice and slow so I could get through the mileage that I wanted to cover.

Weekly Miles: 46.18 miles
Weekly Minutes: ….a lot….

While there were a couple running workouts too many this week and a longer “long run” than scheduled, the week went great! With the weather nice for a couple days, I couldn’t help but get out and take advantage of the day! While this will most likely not be the norm for the rest of my marathon training, I am taking this week in stride… 🙂

  1. That a huge amount of miles for the week! I’m so impressed you get your runs in on your lunch hour! I just completed my first 2016 race and I’m in recovery mode. I need to start training for a few half marathons very soon though. I can’t imagine putting 2016 miles in one year on this old body. Ha Ha. Thanks for linking with us!

    1. I’m excited to read about your first marathon experience! I am super excited for my first full in April 🙂 I am hoping with training for the full and pacing several 1/2s this year, I could make the 2016 miles 🙂 Have a great week!

  3. Wow that was a great week for you! I do love those workout pants, the colorful chevron ones who are they made by? I love bright running clothes. I was on recovery all last week and absolutely loved it. Back at it again this week but easing into it. Got a half in 4-5 weeks!

  4. Awesome mileage for the week! At this rate you won’t have any trouble reaching you 2,016 miles in 2016 goal. I have several half’s over the next few months. My first one is next weekend, but I haven’t ran all week. I’ve got a stuffy nose and sinus pressure headaches. I really hope I feel better by the weekend so I can at least get a long run done.

    1. I have a couple half marathons I am pacing this spring 🙂 I am pacing them slow enough that it will be a great workout without completely killing my legs 🙂 I hope you feel better soon! I eat oranges like it is going out of style…maybe kept me from getting too sick so far this winter!
