How is it already February?! I just seems like the months a flying by… We should sit down and chat over some…coffee? Sure! Join me and many other bloggers for the Ultimate Coffee Date with Coco, Deborah, and Lynda. Thanks for the link-up!
If we were having coffee, I would ask you :
How’s the family? By family, I mean everyone in your life…significant others, little ones, furry/non-furry animal children, friends, coworkers… 🙂
If we were having coffee, I would tell you :
I now have a 2 year old!! Happy Birthday (last Saturday) little man!! These last 2 years have flown by… While we didn’t do anything big (and time/money consuming) for his birthday, we traveled to KC to spend the day with his grandparents 🙂 Nana, Papa, Nana, Papa, Mama, Dada, dinner, desert (cake!!), gifts, and a bubble bath are what every little boy wants on their birthday!
The hubs is doing well! Since we spent last Sunday in KC, the hubs decided to go check out a local brewery…something he RARELY gets to do. He asked me to come along and we made an afternoon of it. You can read about this experience here 🙂
If we were having coffee, I would ask you :
How is your 2016 starting? Are you planning any monumental races this year? Or just the goal of continuing to get more stay active?
If we were having coffee, I would tell you :
I finished out the month of January with 178 miles! While I was not able to complete ALL of my goals for the month of January (goals and update), I was able to put a serious dent in the miles I would like to get for the year. I have high hopes to keep moving through the month of February! Check out my goals for this coming month!
I have been working on my spring race schedule a little bit – between my first marathon in April to working with the Smart Pacing team, I have a great list of races to participate in! You can check out my spring plans on last weeks Spring Races – Tuesdays on the Run post!
In addition, you may have already read, but :
I am participating in running 2,016 miles in 2016…crazy, I know! I am planning to only log dedicated running, walking, or workout miles – so this should be fun, right?! Right…
Then I would mention :
This past week, the ENTIRE #RunTheYear2016 crew rallied for a fellow runner that was made fun of by other runners mid-run… Are you kidding me?! Jennifer was getting her morning run on when a couple of younger gals started bad mouthing her, not realizing that just because she had earphones on didn’t mean that she couldn’t hear them… I am not sure what I would have done in that situation if it were me…but Jen went back to her car and went home, upset about the situation. She mentioned this interaction on the message board and the running group rallied! The next day, everyone was wearing red (the same color Jen was wearing at the incident) and logging miles #RunForJennifer While a little support would be expected, there were thousands of likes and hundreds of comments on the posts for/from Jen! When in doubt, runners will always have each other’s backs and this is an example of how powerful this running community is!
If we were having coffee, I would tell you :
I want spring to come faster! That groundhog said spring in coming soon – and I was to believe it!! My hubs, on the other hand, would love to have more snow…no thank you!
If we were having coffee, I would tell you :
Training for my marathon in April is going well!
But :
I am finding that I am going to need to start breaking in another pair of shoes soon… I was a winner of a new pair of Brooks GTS16 in December but the newer sole does not work well for my feet running 😦 I was hoping they would be my next runners, but they are now great work shoes – which I was needing so I would stop using my comfortable running shoes for the average workday. So it is sort of a win-win – new shoes (win), new dedicated work sneakers (win)!
If we were having coffee, I would tell you :
I am slowly figuring out the foods that make my tummy crazy… While training, I seem to be a bottomless pit of eating. So fueling with quality foods is key to TRY and avoid the dreaded marathon lbs. Mostly, I need the steam clear of processed foods and snacks. *pause for face-palm* I know, I know…but it can be so easy to just grab that box of *insert various protein* Helper and fix a “quick” meal… I have focused more on fresh or minimally processed foods and making my own versions 🙂 This has helped both my pocketbook and my tummy…
If we were having coffee, I would tell you :
I have not been “deferred” from donating blood since college…until this week. Same as my first blood donation attempt, my hemoglobin was too low. On average, women have a 12.1+ level…and mine was 12.2 – but it needs to be 12.5 to be able to donate blood. Talk about a major bummer! I signed up for another drive in town in a couple weeks – and you better believe i will be eating some steaks in the week leading up to the next donation attempt!
What is going on in your neck of the woods (or ‘burbs)?
What are you drinking this morning? What do you wish you were drinking? ; )
I’d love to hear from you! Leave a comment and start a conversation!

I can’t imagine being talked about on a run. Who does that? So glad the running community rallied. 2016 is a lot of miles, but you’re off to a good start. Thanks for joining us for coffee!

Everyone was pretty appalled at the situation…quite sad really. Jen is very impressed that her small post about the situation talked so much support 🙂 Coffee dates are always great!

One time my hubby (who is a little over weight) was out running and a guy pulled up beside him and asked if he needed a ride home. I was so livid i almost tracked that guy down and gave him a piece of my mind (which could be done since we live in such a small town). At least my hubby was out trying an not just sitting on the couch. SMH. I can’t believe people talk bad about anyone trying 😦

No kidding! If anyone is doing something to improve their health, everyone should be applauding them, not tearing down their confidence…

We seem to be constantly checking out new brew pubs – going to one tomorrow in fact. We’ve been to so many that I’m pretty sure my boys could GIVE the tour now. ;o)

Oh yes! A local brewery opened a brew pub about 6months ago, it is great!

It’s so sad that people feel the need to bad mouth those who are trying to do something positive – poor Jennifer. I hope it doesn’t leave a lasting impression on her and she gets back out there with no trouble in no time at all!
It is so frustrating being turned away for blood donors! I went through a phase where I was anaemic for a while and couldn’t donate. I’m back to it now though.
Have a fab Feb!

Jennifer has so much support on the online community, it gives me the drive to get out more 🙂 I am glad that she was able to get the support she was looking for and really needed to get her confidence back. I really hope my next donation goes well! If not, I may take a break for a while and give my body a rest…

My sister told me about the #RunWithJennifer movement on Run this Year. I’m going to sign up, but there’s no way I can run so many miles in a year. Congrats on your January mileage and happy birthday to your little one!

It is an undertaking for sure 🙂 There are a lot of people using their daily steps rather than running/walking miles…to each their own 🙂

I think you’ll blow past 2016 miles this year!

Wow, that is a heck of a lot of miles ! I am training for my first marathon too, and did 120 miles in January. It will increase in February, but not sure my body could handle much more !
Brooks GTS is my favorite. I am currently wearing the 15, I alternate between 2 pairs and have a 3rd brand new pair read to go. I haven’t yet tried the 16s. I have been faithful to the brand / model for at least 5 years . Love it.
Which marathon are you training for ? Which plan are you using ?

First marathon pals! I ❤ GTS…I have a couple pairs of 15s that need to be tossed, 15 and 16 in the rotation at this time, 2 pairs in the waiting area… I am training for the Garmin Marathon in Olathe, KS (where my family lives). I am currently using a training plan through Garmin! Thanks for stopping by 🙂
