Thinking Out Loud

kid-less + gym time | Thinking Out Loud Thursday

Wow, short week means that it is already… Thursday! We are without our little man this week, I was able to spend a little more time at the gym, thinking paleo thoughts, and more! There is a little to talk about with Amanda and her Thinking Out Loud Thursday’s 🙂

Thinking-Out-Loud

Today is the last day to enter the SKINS DNAmic Compression giveaway!

kid-less

Well, after the 4th weekend, my in-laws said that they wanted to keep little man in KC for a couple days. So…we were kid-less Tuesday and Wednesday (or at least until they brought him up to Manhattan). I haven’t got any upsetting phone calls…so I can only believe that all is well..

gym time

Since I am kid-less, I can actually go to the gym after work 🙂 Due to a number of reasons, I didn’t get in a run until after working hours…perfect! I decided to drive to the other side of town (since the gym has 2 locations) to experience the larger gym. It has been quite a while since I have been to the West location, so I was looking forward to seeing what all had changed.

dry sauna

Speaking of gym time, since I can SPEND TIME at the gym a couple days this week, I took advantage of the dry sauna 🙂 Oh boy, I thought I sweat a lot working out outside in the heat of the day. Wow, I have not sweat more than I did in the dry sauna. I have used the sauna in the past…but I don’t recall sweating THAT MUCH. I felt like a new person!

I am also glad that my iPhone doesn’t work when it gets too hot…so when my phone stopped working until it cooled it off, it was time for me to get out!

Funny thing…when I went outside to head home, it felt NICE. Yeah…I know! The 110 degree heat index as I got to the gym was now closer to 100-105…and the slight breeze felt NICE. Dry sauna for the win! I wish I would have thought about sitting in the sauna for a little bit every day once the summer heat started…I think my body would have acclimated a little faster!

thoughts of paleo

As of late, I have been in a rut with my eating and attempts to lose a couple pounds. Nothing drastic! I find myself eating a lot of refined carbs and sugars…and that isn’t good for anyone!

I generally eat relatively paleo, when I actually TRY to watch what I am eating…but I never knew that was what it was called.

Proteins + vegetables + fruits + healthy fats = my jam!

When I am tempted by sweets, I generally indulge a little, which is okay…but most of the time, it leads to indulging a lot. I think that going back to my basics of eating, fresh and simple, I can get back on track.

There is so much to think about with “Paleo” that goes beyond just food… While I am a newbie to the “diet” of “Paleo”, I am going to see how it goes for a few weeks. From what I have read, there will be some pitfalls in the beginning, but once the kinks are worked out, I will be better off without all the sweets and refined carbs. Here we go!

IMG_2619bulletproof coffee

Well, on the paleo theme…one thing that I don’t have to give up is my love for bulletproof coffee : ) Buttered coffee, bulletproof coffee… whatever you want to call it, is the best! I have enjoyed bulletproof coffee for a little while…but only a couple times a week.

Otherwise, I enjoy my coffee black, nothing special.

first rule of paleo…

…don’t talk about paleo. Whoops! Still learning…

Whatever you want to call it – I am trying to cut out the sugar and get back to the basics. This plan of eating, or lifestyle modification, will help me stay focused and give me some guidelines to follow – highest on the list, cutting out refined and excess sugars. Yes, fruit is high in sugar,…but natural sugars are not poison.

I am not going 100% all in at this point…there is a lot of nick-nack food that I need to eat out of the house before I can go all in. Some of the protein powders, bean based snacks like hummus, random protein bars, etc will be used in the following weeks and then eliminated for a while (or a long, long while). I look forward to finding companies that offer solutions without all the extra sugars…

It will all work out…one way or the other. I’m sure I’ll update you 🙂

blogging drafts…missing!

I thought I was ready for a Tuesday’s on the Run link-up this week…but when I went through my drafts folder, nothing. Nada. I can remember the main points that I wrote about…but I am upset enough that I probably won’t re-write the post. Have you ever lost a draft that you KNEW you wrote?! Bummer…

  1. I’m still considering doing one of the month-to-month gyms here, but they don’t have anything special like a sauna or group fitness. I’ve been royally screwed by a gym before (I moved 1000 miles from the closest location but they still insisted I pay the contract out!) and I don’t want to join up at a fancier location with a contract. The idea of not having to run outside in the heat and humidity is so tempting though!

I constantly feel like I’m losing blog drafts, but I think mostly it’s because I have post ideas but don’t get around to drafting them!

I tried bulletproof coffee a few years back and it gave me and my boyfriend both intense heartburn. I’m sticking to black coffee these days 😉

    1. A month to month gym would be great! Through my work, I get a gym membership (since the owner used to own both) as long as I use it. If there is 30 days between visits, I lose the privilege. This summer heat make it a little easier to head to the gym 😆

  2. Oh man, kid-less – I don’t even remember what that is like, ha! I cut out sugar recently to see how helps my skin after being a LIFE LONG sugar addict – and it feels AMAZING. I can’t wait to hear how you like it!

    1. It felt great to not have to plan around little man…minus the fact that I got 0 cleaning done. Spent too much time at the gym 😆 I am looking forward to the “good” of cutting sugar and refined carbs…I am in the slow and fatigue stage at this point. Staying strong though!
