Another week bites the dust! The heat is on and the morning humidity is no fun…but we made it through!
Weekly Workouts
Monday- OFF DAY
Over my lunch break, I walked to the store and back – 1.5 miles total. Nothing too exciting…and no pictures to show since my phone had 3% battery (one of the reasons for the trip was a new USB cable for my phone to charge at my computer…).
Tuesday- While my running buddy decided to sleep in this morning, I didn’t have any excuses NOT to get out and get my run in! 4 easy, flat miles in the bank.
Wednesday- Waking up to a crying toddler at 3:30 am isn’t fun…especially when you have a 4 am alarm going off… So I took my meds, turned off my 4-4:45 am alarms and caught a few extra zzzzs.
When I decided to finally get up, I was running a little behind! I planned on getting 3 miles before meeting up with my running buddy for an additional 5, but I was only able to get 1… We ran our miles together, and then I finished up with the additional 2 – except it started to rain on me! Oh well…I’m no worse off than before (…talk about humidity!!).
Thursday- My morning was less than exciting – as there were some crazy thunderstorms surrounding us for hours! Lots of rain, lightening, and loud thunder.
While I thought about going to the gym, I didn’t REALLY want to go to the gym… So I packed up my Eagle Creek sport bags for a warm lunch run! I knew the rain would be over within a couple hours, so I hoped that I wouldn’t be puddle hopping the whole time.
Rather, I headed to the trail! Yeah…I thought I would at least see how wet it was before really running on it, but it wasn’t bad! Most of the trail was relatively dry-ish.
I passed a couple of gals walking on the trail, my friendly “Hi” to their silence…and not 100 strides later, a down tree. Why couldn’t they have said that there was a tree down ahead?? Whatever…I moved a big section of the tree to the side and then stepped through the branches to get past. Phew, I hope I don’t run into too many more! Little did I know…
A little farther ahead, there is an area that has a sheer edge down to the water. Well, I didn’t realize that there is usually a tree on the bank…and it is now in the water…and the trail is less than 1/2 the width it was before…
Take a picture or two and move on.
But get no where… About 3 strides later, there is a down tree that is taking over the entire trail…and I am not about to start trying to get through that!! Good thing there is a “recent” new leg on the trail that cuts behind this area so I can get around the mess and get on with my run!
While there were a couple more down limbs and trees, I was able to get around them pretty easily. There were a few muddy spots that I almost wiped out in, but other than that, I got out unscathed : ) Eventually, I was smart enough to grab one of the small limbs that fell and use it as a spider web catcher… I caught probably 20 webs before my new “tool” started helping me out!
I finished my run on the upper trail (the left side of the image is where my run started on the lower trail) heading back to work – less tree dodging : )
Friday- OFF DAY
Little man and I finished out the month with a long walk. Our usual walk is a mile…a nice, easy mile. I asked him if he wanted to go for a longer walk and he was excited for a longer walk! So rather than turning back home where we usually do, we headed up the road a little farther before heading back!
Well, it was a little warm and quite sunny…and we got past the 1 mile mark…and then the complaining started. I don’t think we are quite ready for 2 miles yet – or at least when it is warm and sunny…
Saturday- It feels just a little odd that my “long run” is 10 miles this weekend, but as a cycle down week, it is a welcome distance.
Sunday- Since we didn’t get home until after 11 pm last night, I knew that 5 am alarm would be coming too soon…and then I snoozed it until 7 am, ha! I knew it would be tough getting up, but not THAT tough.
Since I knew the hubs wanted to finish up some work early today, I decided to take little man with me on the run so the hubs could get out while we were gone. Mission accomplished!

Brilliant Reflective
While some of my running specific gear comes with “reflective elements” built in, much of my running wardrobe is not running specific. My tank tops, running belt, shorts, skirts, hydration pack, and even my bike (yeah…not necessarily running gear) don’t have sufficient reflective elements for early morning or late evening outings!
Most of the time, I just wear one of my reflective vests, but I am often hurried out the door and forget to grab my low-light gear (I can’t be the only one who does this…!).
When I was given the opportunity to try Brilliant Reflective last winter, I jumped at the chance to bling up my winter gear with some much needed reflective elements – mostly my jackets!
Now that summer is here and my winter jackets are in hibernation for the next 4 months or so, I need to think about making my summer gear more safe!
I was recently given the opportunity to try Brilliant Reflective again, this time with my summer gear! The temps are getting higher and higher and the additional reflective vest can get a bit cumbersome and I am not always good about remembering it when heading out the door.
Brilliant Reflective safety strips come in two “styles – stick-on and iron-on. The both work great for all sorts of gear!
The stick-on reflective strips are great for all types of apparel, bikes, leashes, helmets, hydration packs, and anything that you cannot use an iron on.
I added some strips to my bike, little man’s trike (or “motorcycle” if you ask him), and both of our helmets! I also added some reflective strips to Paisley’s harness and leash before heading out for a dark, evening walk. I am glad that we are always prepared for the darkness – since it will begin to come sooner in the coming months!
The iron-on reflective strips are great for most clothing and fabric materials! My winter gear is set from my last review of Brilliant Reflective, but my summer gear needs some help!
I gathered my most used gear and had an ironing party! While I was given 2 packs of Brilliant Reflective to try, I had purchased several packs last winter and still needed to use them!
The Brilliant Reflective safety strips come in Blue, Red, Black, and Purple in both the stick-on and iron-on styles. These colors helped me blend my safety strips in with the different colors of gear!
Black on black.
Blue on blue.
Red on orange and purple on pink!
While I was able to get A LOT of gear prepped for summer running, I still have more to go – and I would love to have more Brilliant Reflective on hand in the coming months!
I will surely be ordering more Brilliant Reflective – and thank goodness for a 35% off discount! The discount code is “BRP35” for 35% off online on Brilliant Reflective‘s website.

Way to get through the obstacles of the week, fallen trees, rain, a crying toddler. And LOVE those strips, especially for daylight savings time when it stays dark for so long.

The strips look great – I was curious exactly what types of gear you would use it on. Great job with your runs!

I have put both the stick and iron ones on shirts, shorts, skirts, and my hydration pack. I put the stick ons on my bike, kid’s trike, our helmets, and my running stroller ❤
