Weekly Workout

hawk fifty mile training | w16

Bring on the taper!! This week is looking like some cooler temps and less miles – and while I would usually want longer miles in the cooler temps, I am working on some major self control and sticking to the training plan!!

Weekly Workouts

Monday- OFF

After work, little man and I went for a walk – more he was on the bike and I was walking. A little something to wear us out… Little man has been bad about going to bed and staying in bed lately, and he has also been FULL of energy in the evening. I need to find a way to wear him out a little before bed.

Tuesday- 4 miles

After a late start and many excuses, I was able to get my scheduled run accomplished.

Wednesday- 10 miles

Another late start…but I was able to get out, come back and meet up with my pal Ang, go for a few miles, split up, go for a couple more, then swing by home and pick up the pup for 1 more mile : ) She was clearly quite excited to go and then roll around the yard when we got back!

I have a feeling that her walking schedule will be more frequent with the lower temps and lower humidity… Also, check out her new Stunt Puppy Go Dog Glo Dry Collar! We  are testing it out in her favorite ORANGE color (also our favorite BibRave orange)…review to come — but if you are itching to buy some Stunt Puppy gear, you can use BIBRAVE917 for 20% off your purchase online!

Thursday- 8 miles

Another early start…a few miles with a friend and a final mile with my pup : )

Friday- OFF

Saturday- 10 miles + Race Volunteer (1 mile walking)

Well, THAT was an early start…10 miles before 6 am. I am not sure that is the most mileage I have got in before 6 am (my last marathon training cycle probably had that beat with a 20+ miler before 8:30 am).

Due to volunteering at the Speedy P.D. 5K/10K and needing to be there by 6:45 am with little man in tow, I decided to get in what I could as early as possible! I thought about getting more miles in with little man after the race, but other plan in town came up…like Storytime at the Library and seeing Willie the Wildcat : )

Sunday- 16 miles 6 miles + 4 miles

I chose to sleep in…and then when I thought about getting out, there was a big storm near us. Isn’t that how it happens?!

Well, we waited out the storm and lazied around the house for a while. Around noon, it was time to get out and see what we could get in. Little man and I got dressed and headed out. The mid-70s felt like mid-90s and I was hot fast… I decided to forego the longer miles and settled for 6.

Later in the day, I decided to hit up the gym to get in a few more miles…but since my “lady time” is here again (2nd time this month), I wasn’t feeling super strong. I settled for 4 miles on the treadmill…

Weekly Miles : 42 miles + 2 walking miles

1621 / 2,016 miles in 2016

Next Week’s Projected Workouts

Next week’s miles are going to be a bit interesting…we will be traveling to CO on Friday morning and spending the weekend camping…our first total camping trip, no potable water, a couple necessary workouts and lots of stink. Probably some water bottle baths in my future…

Monday- OFF (cross training or yoga)
Tuesday- 4 miles
Wednesday- 6 miles
Thursday- 6 miles
Friday- OFF (cross training or yoga)
Saturday10 miles
Sunday- 6 miles

While my current plan is directed at my first 50m attempt in a couple weeks, I am also starting to think about my next race this fall!

KC Marathon Final Logo

As my next big race, I will be running the Kansas City Marathon as a BibRave Pro on October 21st! Have you registered? If not, you should use the offer “BIBRAVE17” at checkout for 15% off your KCM distance of choice!

Not ready for a marathon? That’s perfectly fine! Register for the 5K, 10K, or half marathon distances too! I’ll see you on course! I’ll be sporting the BibRave ORANGE! Check out why I think you should run the KCM and what I am looking forward to this year!

Based off Coach Eladio’s training plans, I should be working on some speed workouts right now! While speed isn’t quite on my mind at the moment, I have an idea of where to start in a couple weeks! : )

  1. Wow! A 50 miler! That’s awesome girl ….can’t wait to hear all about that in a few weeks! I’ve been cycling this summer instead of running in preparation for a century ride but I’m ready to get back to running again. I’ve got a half in December and thinking of building on that for a full in late January. We’ll see!

Have fun camping and good luck with that 50miler!

  2. Hoorah for cooler weather! We’ve had really mixed temperatures in England, with lots of overcast, muggy days which haven’t been great for running. I much prefer a hotter but drier day to muggy ones.

Looks like you got some great miles in. I am amazed that you ran 10 miles before 6am! Well done you!

  3. I may be up that early, but I can’t even fathom running that far that early. Heck, our group broke off our main group because they were meeting at 6 am! Maybe it has something to do with being older.

I hope your camping trip is fun! No my thing, but hey, if that’s what you enjoy!

  4. With a little one and the hubs working early, I have to get out that much earlier to get my miles in…or I get an additional 50-70 lbs to push around for my longer runs = not much fun! Sometimes, you just do what you need to do to get it done 🙂 I am looking forward to camping…but I am nervous about the LARGE wildlife that may try and eat me… 😦
