OZ Marathon w1 | training for 100M

This week was an interesting one! I wanted this week to be one for recovery, but I did quite a bit of running…felt great!

I am hoping that the training time between the 50K 20M and the big 100M training cycle will be filled with additional strength training and marathon prep! My next “race” in the books is the Garmin Marathon and I will be pacing the 5:30 runners!

weekly workouts : week 1

Monday- The weather was just too nice to NOT hear outside! My legs were sore, but I took it slow and run/walked 3 lunchtime miles. I did find a couple puddles and have some flashbacks to last weekend… ha! (3)

Tuesday- While I wasn’t sure how my legs were going to feel, I agreed to meet up with my running buddy for 4 miles. Once I got home, I took Miss Pai out to the end of the block and back to make 4.5 for the morning (4.5)

Then, a 70*F afternoon at the end of February brought be outside for an additional easy 2 miles over my lunch break…I have a running addiction. I am okay with that… (2)

Wednesday- After a lazy Tuesday night, I should have been well rested for a morning run! I just wanted to stay in bed… But early morning texting got me moving and out the door. Ang and I ran 5 hilly miles together and I took Miss Pai out for the rest of my last mile – she now expects to get in a little running whenever I get home from a morning run (6)

Thursday- With the morning weather getting chilly this morning, I opted for the sheets. I was woken up by my alarms as usual, but I just went back to bed – I was then woken up by the sweetest little guy who wanted to cuddle for a little bit ♥ Too bad I needed to get ready for work and he needed to get dressed for his day as well…

I did pack a bag for a lunch jaunt – it is getting into the mid-50s today – not too bad! I wasn’t sure I wanted to hit up the river trail just yet… but the 4 mile bird trail loop was a no-brainer (4)

Friday- My morning started with good intentions…but I just laid in bed. I was awake…but I was warm and didn’t have QUITE enough motivation to actually get out of bed. Have those days?!

I packed up my afternoon run bag and headed to work! Good thing that the weather is changing, the boss will sometimes send us home early. Bonus! More run time! (5.5)

Saturday- While I intended on taking this week a little easier, I noticed that next week is a “recovery” or down week for miles with the plan that I am jumping into… Since my legs are feeling great, I decided to go for a longer, long run this weekend. Next weekend is a “break” anyway…right?! Plus, the weather is AMAZING today…so there may be a couple runs to break up the day 🙂 (10)

Sunday- I would have liked to get out and run…it just didn’t happen!

Weekly Miles : 35 miles
Training Miles : 35 miles
Annual Miles : 383 miles (goal = 2,018 in 2018)

Next Week’s Projected Workouts

Tuesday- 5 miles
Wednesday- 5 miles
Thursday- 5 miles

  1. Looks like a great kickoff to your marathon training! I do love spring running–most of the time. Hopefully, we’ll see more of those nice days and fewer of the cold, snowy days!

Have a great week and thanks for linking up!

  2. All the best with your marathon training cycle! Yes, I’m more than ready for this snow to be gone and spring to get in full swing. Thanks for linking!

  3. Wow, 100 miles? That is amazing!! Are you working with a coach or following a specific plan?

Is the OZ Marathon the same as the Garmin one in April? I haven’t run in Kansas and have been wanting to do the half marathon.

    1. Yes, the OZ Marathon is the Garmin Marathon – the name is always a little funny…it should be called The OZ Marathon sponsored by Garmin or something. I enjoyed the full a couple years ago (my first full) and it is great this year because 1/2 of the half course (and 3/4 the full) is on paced blacktop trails! So fun!

  4. It sounds like a great kickoff week for the Oz Marathon. Your marathon training will be a great base build-up for the 100M — which is so impressive, I might add. Thanks for linking!
