Oh boy…this week is another big one for miles! While I am not building up specifically for Rock n Roll Chicago, I am going to try and build in some workouts to help keep some speed on my legs.

The Hawk 100 is coming fast – and a long training run is just a week away. The Night Hawk 50K is run on the same trails as the Hawk (except backwards) next weekend…and I am not exactly tapering for it either… Yeah, I am that a-hole that won’t be too terribly disappointed with a questionable performance next weekend because it “is just a training run” and lots of time on my feet. Sorry kids…

Let’s see how this past week went!

weekly workouts : week 9 (june 18)

Monday
Scheduled : OFF
Actual : OFF

Tuesday
Scheduled : 8 miles
Actual : 8 miles

A gorgeous sunrise to start my running week off right – I needed it too! The weather was cool, my cadence felt high, my HR stayed low – and I took my time enjoying the sunrise ♥

Wednesday
Scheduled : 8 miles
Actual : 4.25 miles + 4 miles

I would have liked to get out this morning for a run…but I nearly decided to JUST sleep in last night because the weather wasn’t going to be good this morning. BUT, the weather didn’t hit us, or at least not through the morning (like it was projected to). So my late start didn’t make it easy to get out…and then I just lazied around…

I packed up my lunch run bag and hit the trail for part of my miles. I saved the rest for the evening with little man.

Thursday
Scheduled : 8 miles
Actual : 8 miles + 1 mile

Morning miles are the best way to start the day – too bad I was a random, nervous wreck checking over my shoulder all the time… Darn stories online of women being kidnapped or attempted kidnapping has me a bit shook up. Seeing the video of cars continuing to drive by and not stopping to help…makes me crazy!!

Little man in the BUFF® Pack Trek Cap to shield the sun from his face and keep the bugs out of his hair ♥

Little man and I are taking advantage of the amazing weather this week – and opt to #livemorenow and we hit the trail tonight! So much fun hearing him talk about the rocks and bug and looking for animals ♥

Friday
Scheduled : 8 miles
Actual : 4.5 miles + 3 miles

A slow start to the morning means I packed a lunch run bag – no biggie.

After work, I had the thought that little man and I would go run the 2out/2back to/from the park…but the day was so nice! We we hit the trail again instead – a different trail every time! This time, we made our way to the Birding Trail at Northeast Community Park – the park trail is roughly a mile around and the birding trail is 0.5 out and then 0.5 back. How did we get 3 miles? We had a bathroom stop and then forgot our drinks in the car…an extra mile didn’t hurt either of us 🙂

Little man’s favorite hat is the BUFF® Pack Trek Cap and I am sporting the BUFF® UV Multifunctional Headwear – both great choices to get outdoors this summer!

Saturday
Scheduled : 20 miles
Actual : 20 miles

My sleep has been suffering BIG TIME lately…so I opted to sleep in and go for a run after the sun came up. In doing so, little man and I planned a date day out of it! Stop included the donut shop, a couple of parks to play, a water/ice refill, and the splash park! With an 8 hour trek, we spent about 5 hours running – and 3 hours playing 😉

Sunday
Scheduled : 15 miles
Actual : 15 miles

While I DID PLAN on getting up and out early, the snooze button won – and then family time. We went out to breakfast (which the hubs and little man have been doing solo when I have been out running) and just relaxed most of the day. The rain that was supposed to be on and off all day didn’t really come…and when I checked the weather around 5pm, it looked like we weren’t going to get any until after midnight! Well…I had 15 miles and needed a few hours of non-rain to get them in. Once the hubs got home from his outing, I got ready and hit the trail! I headed out after 7pm and got home around 11pm. Not too shabby – and got it done!

Weekly Miles : 68 miles
RnRChicago Miles : 189 miles
100m Training Miles : 525 miles
Annual Miles : 1174 miles (goal = 2,018 in 2018)

  1. Well, wow, that’s a lot of miles! So how did you do 20 with your son? Was he in a stroller? I’m super impressed that you were able to get that done with him! Way to go!

  2. WOW that’s a lot of miles but I understand if you are going to do a 50K and then a 100K or is it miler?? Have you done Chicago before? I did it two years ago and had a great time but it was HOT. And I grew up there (and in New Mexico) but I’ve been away so long it was kind of a challenge! The RnR team knows how to handle it though, so I think you’ll have a blast!

I just started training for the Warsaw marathon end of September. It’s my 2nd attempt at marathon training this year; my first attempt was aborted after having sub-par runs and trainings that just didn’t happen (to be fair, my mother in law died and I have an ongoing issue with my foot but that’s another story). I’m determined to make it work this time around though. I haven’t run a marathon since Nov 2016 so it’s really important I do the training properly! (Like it’s not important otherwise but…hopefully you know what I mean).

    1. I am building up to a 100 miler in September and the miles keep coming 😂 I haven’t run in Chicago before so I am excited to experience the city by foot! I believe the heat has been an issue for this race in the past, so I am not too worried… You’ll get your marathon! I have friends that took more than a couple attempts to get the first – no biggie. Life happens and running will always be there to pick you back up 😉 Not every run will be great, but I prefer training through the winter for a spring race rather than through the summer for a fall race…but summer heat brings fall PRs (from what I hear). Best of luck this training cycle!

  3. Great miles for you this week as always. 🙂 I feel you on the morning struggles. It seems like when I DO get up, the weather is not onboard. Then it’s way hot. The struggle is real.

  4. Making a play date out of the 20 mile run is a brilliant idea! But, that is still an incredible about of miles with a child in tow. You rock! Great miles this week. Thanks for linking!
