This week is just feels a bit off…
After the [all] night run, I have been “catching up” on sleep and making a full night of sleep a bigger priority than getting out for morning runs. I am not too heart broken about the down week, they come sometimes – planned or not!
I am gearing up to travel and run the Rock ‘n’ Roll Chicago in a couple weeks and the quickly approaching Hawk 100m event in September!
Let’s get on with it!
weekly workouts : week 11 (july2)
Monday
Scheduled : OFF
Actual : OFF
Tuesday
Scheduled : 8 miles
Actual : 4 miles
While I set my alarms, I woke up…but I just didn’t get up and get going. I packed up my lunch run bag, but was reminded via email that we have a lunch meeting today. Shoot…that puts a wrench in my back-up plan. But then since there were a few that wouldn’t be able to make the meeting, it was postponed…so I was able to run a few miles after all!
Wednesday
Scheduled : 6 miles
Actual : 6 miles
Happy 4th of July! Since we have a big day planned and I needed to get up and out early to get in the miles! I planned on making up for yesterday’s mix up…but didn’t get out of bed early enough. I nearly scratched the run all together to spend a little more time with my boys! But it worked out that they got breakfast prepped and cooked and ready by the time I walked in the door ♥
Thursday
Scheduled : 6 miles
Actual : 5 miles
While I didn’t WANT to get up this morning after getting to bed after midnight the night before, the lightening storm close to my normal alarm times did wake me. I didn’t realize that we had storms coming through, but it helped ease my conscious that I didn’t head out…because I couldn’t even if I wanted to!
I packed up a lunch run bag and headed to work for the day! I mixed in some intervals to make a good effort lunch run!
Friday
Scheduled : 6 miles
Actual : 3.5 miles + 4 miles
Since I didn’t get out early, I opted for a later-in-the-day run…with no actual plans as to when.
Eventually, I decided that it would be a good idea to run little man to swim lessons (3+ miles) and back to get in my 6 miles for the day. Great PLAN. We got to swim lessons just fine, but when we were leaving, the stroller felt weird and I noticed that we had a flat tire.
WUT.
So little man took it upon himself to push the buggy as long as he could…which didn’t last all that long. Our steady 35 minute/mile pace was tiring…but we were making progress! When I saw the hubs drive by, I asked if he could take little and the bum stroller with him so I could finish my run – so he came back and helped me out! Yay!
Saturday
Scheduled : 15 miles
Actual : 6 miles + 6 miles
I woke up a little before my first alarm…but I just laid in bed until it was too late to get all of my miles I planned before hitting the trail. Oh well, I was able to get 6 of 9 road miles and then 6 trail miles to start the weekend!
Sunday
Scheduled : 15 miles
Actual : 1 mile + 12.5 miles
Frankly, this run nearly didn’t happen. A long, hot day didn’t leave a lot of motivation to get out the door…and the hours passed by when I planned to head out. Little man then wanted to take his new shoes on a ride, so we walked a mile before he was off to bed.
Once little man was in bed, I finally hit the road. I didn’t have a route, just miles…and 3 planned hours to be out. I ran some interesting loops, almost went home around mile 5-6 [cars creeping me out, felt followed…], but stuck it out until 12. Once midnight hit, I was ready to head home. I know I could have “gut out” a couple more miles, but I have a long week coming up and I could use that extra energy.
Weekly Miles : 49.5 miles
RnRChicago Miles : 303 miles
100m Training Miles : 639 miles
Annual Miles : 1288 miles (goal = 2,018 in 2018)

Your brave heading out that late. I never run in the dark, especially that late. I would be weirded out with every car that passed.

Oh yes…I ran a solo night run on the local linear trail a few weeks ago and I was paranoid. I hoped that the road would make me feel more comfortable but I was stressed…

I’m impressed by that late night run! I am so tired at the end of the day that there’s no way it could happen!

So tired…but that is almost the point of a late day run. Major accumulated fatigue.

That’s a busy week!
I run in the dark all the time, but never at night! Well done by you!

I feel like I always run in the dark – but morning dark and not evening dark.

Wait, you were out running at midnight? Wow! I I think the latest I’ve been out is around 8:30.

Ha! Yeah. My last non-race late night run was until a little after 11pm…I will likely need another couple later ones.

It is a mind game for sure…wanting to give up and head home.

Funny how life gets in the way. Even though you didn’t hit your planned mileage every day, I think you had an awesome week! I am running the Napa to Sonoma Half Marathon on Sunday. I am undertrained, but that is nothing new!

Undertrained is better than overtrained 🙂

You got it done! Good job. Those miles where you almost didn’t get them done, those are the ones you’ll draw on during the race. When times get tough, you can think back to a week like today and say “hell yeah I can do it!”
