spring training | week 1

It’s been a hot minute (or couple of months) that I haven’t posted about my running or working out! While I have enjoyed taking a step back from the blog (and quite a bit of my social media), the time has come to circle back up!

I have some personal changes coming in 2019 – check out this post in case you missed it 😉 And this change is going to affect my running and working out in many ways.

To this point, I have certainly focused less on the running side of my life (mostly due to the cold, slick streets…and I still don’t know how I ran on a treadmill for hours on end last year) but this is going to pick up again as the weather improves!

I have some running plans for this spring and then in the fall…but we’ll see what all gets accomplished. I am not in complete control at this point – but here are my ideas :

  • Garmin Half Marathon (4/13/19) – run for fun and see how everything is feeling
  • Bill Snyder Highway Half (5/25/19) – pace the 3:00 finishers
  • Hospital Hill (6/1/19) – not sure on the distance I would run/walk at this point…only time will tell!
  • Hawk Marathon (9/7/19) – stretch goal to run/walk these trails
  • Kansas City Marathon (10/19/19) – not sure on the distance I will be able to run but planning on attempting the half marathon as my 3rd year as a BibRave Pro…I can have dreams 🙂

While ALL of these plans are in pencil in my calendar, I have high hopes that this pregnancy will allow me to run to my heart (and legs) content! Let’s see how this first week back at it goes!

weekly workouts : week 1

Monday
Scheduled : T20 Burn + 30 minute run
Actual : T20 Strength (w2) + T20 Balanced (w2)

Yeah, I have not been the best about getting my workouts in…I have been sleeping in as much as I can – and I had an overnight guest sleeping in my living room (which I found later since I slept in).

Even though I have been coming home for lunch time to time to get in this quick (and HARD) 20 minute workout – I pushed them into the evening. Slowly catching up!

Oh yeah, I forgot to run at all today…so much for starting that back up more regularly again, ha! Maybe I will get in a couple miles by the weekend – or on the weekend since the weather will be 1256x better!

Tuesday
Scheduled : T20 Faster
Actual : T20 Burn

Yep – another sleeping in morning, but I was able to get home for a lunch workout. It was odd for the hubs to also come home over lunch to do some missed morning things…but got it done!

I thought about doing my second workout (to catch up completely!), but chilling with little man took over the evening.

Wednesday
Scheduled : T20 Strength + 30 minute run
Actual : T20 Faster + T20 Strength

Morning workout – YAS! It helped that I woke up at exactly 4:04am – the exact time little man was born 5 years ago on this day! Happy Birthday Oakley!!

I plan to get in a lunch or dinner second workout…and then I will be all caught up on the Transform 20 plan! Hopefully I can keep it up and not need to “catch up” too much more… Oh yeah, I didn’t run today because #idontlikethegym and it is -5126 degrees outside…

Thursday
Scheduled : T20 Powerful
Actual : T20 Powerful

Am I the only one that thinks that if I can get up one day, it should always be that easy?! I really hoped to be able to roll out of bed early, but a poor night of sleep didn’t help…so I pushed it to after work… At least it got done!

Friday
Scheduled : T20 Cut
Actual : T20 Cut + 2 mile run/walk

Yaass! A morning workout feels so good to get it done! Since I didn’t need to head home over lunch to get my workout done, I headed out for a run! The trails are mush, so I stuck to the sidewalks…not the most appealing visually, but it works!

Saturday
Scheduled : T20 Balanced + 30 minute “long” run
Actual : OFF

While I set out with the BEST of intentions to get up and get in a run…I slept in. Little man and I wanted to get out and enjoy the “warmer weather”, but it was hazy and wet most of the day. We got out for a little bit, but settled in at home most of the day. We finished the day with a family movie night with The Lion King – an old classic from the hubs and my childhood (and now little man!).

Sunday
Scheduled : OFF
Actual : T20 Balanced + 1 mile walk + 3 mile run/walk

Another morning of failed alarms…but after the hubs got home from his long ride (roughly 40 miles!) and settled in at home for a bit, little man + pup + me got out for a bit! We started in the Jeep which then died within 100′ of the house…so I pushed him home and we took out the bike! We made it 0.5 miles from home (the farthest point) and little man decided that he was done…well, not we get to walk to bike back home! Once we got back, I settled him in with a movie while the hubs napped and I headed out for a few more solo miles. Overall, it felt good. My legs started feeling sore in areas I haven’t had soreness for a long, long time…so that wasn’t so fun. Otherwise, it was GREAT to enjoy the “warmth” that hung around today! It is gone tomorrow…

Weekly Workouts : 8 workouts
Weekly Miles : 6 miles
Total 2019 miles : 25.35 miles

Kansas City Marathon | BibRave Pro

Being into my 3rd year as a BibRave Pro, I have another opportunity to run the Kansas City Marathon! This is a “hometown” event for me and the half marathon is my current (and long standing) Personal Record (PR) at 2:09 and change.

I don’t believe this will be the year for PRs, but it will be my first postpartum race. What should my goal be? Petting the most dogs? Giving the most high fives? We’ll see…

In the meantime, I will dream about those KC hills (happy dream or nightmare…time will tell), that yummy post race KC BBQ, and the amazing swag!

Come and run with me, any distance really, and save with the discount code BIBRAVE2019KCM – good for 15% off!

  1. I’m so glad you are back with us but more importantly–congrats on your pregnancy! Such good timing, you did that 100 miler and everything! I’m excited to see how you do with training and everything. Do you read Mile by Mile blog? She ran pretty much right up to her delivery in December! You got this!

  2. You are doing an awesome job of staying active for you and baby! I’m glad you’re feeling well and are able to keep running. I feel like running and light strength training kept me sane during each of my pregnancies 🙂 Love all the races on your schedule!
