I live in a relatively small town with limited running events. While we have a lot of 5K opportunities throughout the year, but I really love the half and full marathon (or farther) distances. For those races, we are quite limited… So traveling to nearby cities is a necessary situation.
Traveling for fun or for races can be tough and stressful. I always seem to forget something essential in the mix…and I am a notorious over-packer.
Having a bag that can hold all the extra things I “need” is hard to come by.
The bags are either too small and then I need several bags, or the bags are too big and I have no idea where to put them while I am not using them…
I was given the opportunity to try a duffel bag that could be small and compact while not in use, and large enough to pack for several days away from home.
Sound impossible?
Not for Eagle Creek.
Eagle Creek
Eagle Creek was founded in California in 1975 by a couple of lovers of traveling who owned a local retail store, Mountain People. The company has been focused on creating quality packs to make the traveling experience better.
Today, Eagle Creek make a variety of packing solutions including duffel bags, organizers, and various luggage options for all your traveling needs!
I have been using the Eagle Creek Pack-It Sport™ Shoe Locker & Wet Dry Locker for all of my day-to-day needs for the past 6 months or so. Whether I was heading to the gym in the morning or packing for a lunch run, Eagle Creek bags have been great!
Until now, I haven’t had an adequate sized duffel to take my workout gear back and forth. I have needed to use several smaller bags to tote my gear to and from the gym or work.
Eagle Creek Cargo Hauler Duffel (60L)
Through my BibRave Pro ambassadorship, I was able to give the Eagle Creek Cargo Hauler Duffel (60L) a try!
Out of the box, I was hardly convinced that this bag was going to fit the bill…but boy was I wrong!
Once I was able to open it up, the Cargo Hauler Duffel was huge! Somehow, the entire bag can fold up into itself – which is how big it was when I opened the original package.
Here are the product specifications (from the website) :
Capacity : 60 L
Modular Dimensions (all packed up) : 13.5 x 10.5 x 5 in
Dimensions (opened up and ready to pack!) : 26.5 x 10.25 x 13.5 in
Weight : 1 lbs 12 oz
Material : Bi-Tech™ Armor Lite – super durable, ultra light, and abrasion-resistant
There are so many features of this bag – a few notable ones are :
- ultra light! – only 1lb 12oz
- backpack straps for easy carrying
- the straps are removable to carry the bag by the top or side handles
- main compartment is weather repellent – also with storm flap shield zippers
- one large main compartment with a large zipper area + 2 end compartments
I have been using my Eagle Creek Cargo Hauler Duffel (60L) for the past couple months for all of my running and traveling needs.
For example, my husband and I took an 8 hour road trip to Colorado in September – a 4 day, 3 night excursion. Yes, I over-packed…big time. But I was able to cram so much into my bag:
- 4 changes of cool weather active wear (tops, bottoms, bras, socks, and outerwear)
- 3-4 changes of “day/night clothes” + jammies
- running shoes
- running fuel (gels, powders, bottle)
- running accessories (head wraps, hats, gloves, etc.)
While my bag was heavy once it was all packed up, the backpack straps made it super easy to carry!
I have also taken my Cargo Hauler Duffel back and forth from KC for various fall races. With all of the gear and various running accessories, I still had tons of room!
In addition weekend trips, I have been able to take this bag to the gym and to work for morning or afternoon runs.
I was lucky that the bag fit perfectly in the gym lockers! Granted, if I put much more it the bag, it very well may not have fit..I can try that later. : )
Also, when taking clothes, gear, and shoes to work, the bag is a little large…
Overall
For weekend travel, the 60L is great!
For everyday “going to the gym” before work or for an afternoon #runch, the bag is a little large…
Either way, I don’t have any excuses for not having enough space for all the necessities!
While the Eagle Creek Cargo Hauler Duffel (60L) is $99 on their website, and with free shipping with orders over $49+, you are making a great investment in your future excursions. Plus, the Eagle Creek Cargo Hauler Duffel comes in a variety of sizes. You can choose the one that works best for your needs!

I know you mentioned the eagle creek website, but also try ebags.com. They ALWAYS have them 20%-30%+ off. Just a thought from someone that hates paying “full price” for anything.
