There are so many things to remember when running the ultra [or ANY for that matter] distances – 50K and above. Things can get hard…real hard, but there are several ways to push through the pain to get to that finish line. Here are five things I need to remember when running a long race – let’s say, 100 miles. Since I am deep into the Hawk 100 training, I need to think about these often!
Not every race goes as planned. That is just the nature of the beast that is running in the great outdoors.
With recent snow and ice, we were prepared for the cold…but I was less prepared for warmer temps melting everything into a muddy mess.
That was what we got to slog through for 10M – 50K on Saturday, February 24th, 2018 – the Psycho Wyco Run Toto Run 10M, 20M and 50K trail race.
What a week! The weather was crazy…and not in a good way. Which meant that the trails for my weekend race were not so great… “Take what the trail gives you” has a whole new meaning for me now – because I took 5 pounds of the trail with me home… Here’s my last week for this training cycle!
A cold week of running – and a long insteadmill run at the gym. Another week down! I am only a couple weeks out from the Psycho Wyco Run Toto Run 50K – I have already started checking the ever changing weather reports… #bibchat
Another week down! While my weekend of running didn’t go as planned (when does it ever), I was able to get in some good miles through the week! Coming up on a weekend pacing event, maybe a week with lower miles than needed was a good thing… We shall see next week!

This week has been a mix bag of weather and life events. Stress isn’t good for anyone or anything, but running helps…Â
Welcome to 2018!
While this is the first full training week of 2018, I am already into week 6 of my 50K training!
Want to know a secret?!
I will probably be crying and complaining about the cold for a while now – it has REALLY set in. There is a big likelihood that I will be wimping out the the gym off and on…no shame! I don’t mind the cold…but the FREEZE YOUR EVERYTHING IN 2 SECONDS cold is a little harder to step out into…
