Well, it is about that time again – Runfessions!! How is it already the end of March?! (you will hear this every month…but for real?!)
This year is starting to evolve, and I am liking where it is going in my running life!
Like every month ends – the last Friday, we chat with Marcia and check out everyone’s Rufessions for the month!!
I runfess…
I totally sacrifice my sleep to get in my long, long run on the weekend. I know I don’t get to bed early enough on Friday…and I certainly get up WAY too early to get in some decent hours…
This weekend is my last 20-miler for this training cycle. The hubs has to be at work by 9 am…and little man is usually up between 7-7:30 am on the weekend (yeah…why can’t he get up early WILLINGLY during the week?!).
All of this considered, I TRY to be home from my run around 8 am.
I always OVER-CALCULATE my time on the road/trail/sidewalk no matter the distance…because you never know what may come up. With my long run time calculation, I give myself at least 5 hours to get my 20 miler in…
MATH TIME! Getting home around 8 am means that I need to leave the house around……………
3 am
No lies. I have a problem. Frankly, I would rather get home a little earlier with my miles all accounted for than something happen and I am unable to get them all in… Anyone else like this? Am I too type A? With my long training runs, yes, totally. With other things in life, nope nope nopety nope.
..but I runfess…
Other than my Saturday morning long run, I am not good about getting up early for morning runs. The current morning chill and need for layers still has me packing a lunch run bag…
I do it for the long run…
I runfess…or not!!
Speaking of sleep…I am starting to think about some longer overnight runs…those are not going to happen while counting sheep…
FELLOW ULTRA RUNNERS – how do you (or do you ever) get comfortable with running the trails at night?
I was proactive and signed up for a night 50K this summer on the same trails I will be running for my 100…but that is only one long run. I am going to need more long runs that will need to be on the trails.
I runfess…
I do have the option to move my long runs to Sunday – if necessary.
Frankly, I would rather spend Sunday with my family and not on the trail…but if worse comes to worse, I will totally switch my back-to-backs to spend a little less time out on Saturday so I can spend more time out on Sunday…
Did I mention that I have a running problem… #ultralife
I runfess…
There is more to my life than running… 🙂
Gotta run…bye!

I have a hard time sleeping well the night before I have a long run or race scheduled. It’s hard to go to sleep early and then I toss and turn. Runner probs!

It feels like the first day of school…like I wake up WAY before my alarm or can’t get to sleep because I am afraid that I will oversleep…

I don’t think I have ever gotten up at 3 am to run except for Disney Races, more power to ya! I have trouble getting my longer runs in and I don’t even have any little ones.

Those Disney races are EARLY…I have heard the stories!

I have to admit that I sacrifice sleep far to often for running! Have a great weekend

Me too…spending some extra time with family in the evening is worth it 😉

The longest ultra I have done is a 50 miler, and with it being in the spring, I didn’t have to train on the trail in the dark. Do you run alone in the dark on the trail? Whether alone or with others, it sounds scary! I remember one nighttime trail run I did with friends for “fun” and I once ran a nighttime trail race…. 6.66 miles! I am surprised I didn’t twist my ankle! My runs during the week are in the dark but it’s on the road so not nearly as bad ass as running in the dark on the trail!

I have certainly ran in the evening and EARLY morning on the roads…but not the trail. I lucked out that I didn’t need my headlamp (other than the start) when I ran my 50M last fall. It was getting dark but I was still able to see… I do have friends that I might be able to talk/bribe into running into the night on the trails – or maybe I can find a REAL FRIEND who will join me 😉 The summer night race is a 50K…so that will be interesting!!

I’m not an ultra runner or a night runner but the thought of trails overnight scares me. I ran a Ragnar leg in the middle of the night that was pretty creepy. Mad props to you for even entertaining a run a 3am to get in that 20. Yikes.
