The early-week cool mornings felt great and the afternoon heat has been intense! There is at least one day that I know I am going to be outside in the heat…and I don’t look forward to it. I plan to just hit all the miles that morning (rather than splitting it up)…

While I am just getting started with my 100m training for the Hawk, I am only a couple week out from the Hospital Hill Half Marathon on June 3rd! Register today with the code BIBHHR18 for 15% off your distance of choice. I will be running the 5K on Friday night and the half on Saturday – join me!!

weekly workouts : week 3 (may 7)

Monday
Scheduled : OFF
Actual : OFF

Tuesday
Scheduled : 8 miles
Actual : 8+ miles

Morning miles are a must these days…the mid-day heat is nearly unbearable! I know I will need to get used to it soon…but I am holding out for now!

I decided to run some hills today…and it sort of lucked out that my running buddy choose to sleep in. I don’t think she would have liked what I ended up running… I started off with my usual figure-8 loops in the neighborhood but decided to venture out to some bigger hills. There is a monster hill a little over a mile from my house and I ran up and down it 3 times before heading home. I thought about running it once, then twice…and when I checked the time and my mileage, I decided to make it 3. Phew…I will be feeling that tomorrow!

Wednesday
Scheduled : 5am/5pm miles
Actual : 5am miles + 5 miles

What is it about shorter mile days that make me feel out of whack? It takes me a couple/few miles to feel good…and right when I am feeling good, it is time to get home… Oh well, at least my morning run felt good!

Our evening run was interesting… It was still warm outside (mid-80s) so little man and I took his Jeep out for a couple miles and it started to smell like burning plastic (whomp whomp). Soooo…I just hope that it will be okay! After our 2.5 miles, I put him in the buggy and set out for another 2.5 mile loop to finish the miles for today! We both wore out BUFF caps – shading from the sun and keeping our heads protected ♥

Thursday
Scheduled : 6 miles
Actual : 6 miles

Since I ran later last night, I still planned on getting my mile in the morning – success (but not easy)! A beautiful sunrise to start the day!

Friday
Scheduled : 6 miles
Actual : 4 miles

I didn’t get up to my alarms…just kept turning them off. I stayed in this morning and cleaned up the house a little – packed up a lunch run bag and got ready for the day. I know that I won’t be able to get in all 6 miles over lunch (especially in the heat we will be getting), but I can get 4! Better than nothing!

Saturday
Scheduled : 15 miles
Actual : 11 miles

With a late night Friday, I didn’t get as much sleep as I would have liked before my long run…but I made it work! I had some major mental demons messing with me through the run and since I didn’t get out on time, I knew I wasn’t going to be able to get the miles I needed today. I opted to switch my long run days this weekend…and got home in time for the hubs to bike to work.

Sunday
Scheduled : 11 miles
Actual : 15 miles

Happy Mother’s Day! With some funny weather coming through, I wasn’t able to get out until after the sun came up…which meant that I was going to be dealing with the sun/heat today. After a few miles, I decided to run on the linear trail. The gravel/ground would feel better than the concrete…and I don’t typically get to run this route. The hubs and little man called me while I was out and wished me a Happy Mother’s Day and it really made me happy to hear their happy voices! The run was far from perfect, but I found some pep in my step (the mid-run Run Gum probably) around mile 12 and the last few miles felt great even though my HR was higher than I would have liked.

I have been testing the new Coros PACE multisport watch this week and I have found that it has performed flawlessly, felt great on my wrist, and kept me well informed with different running metrics. Check it out today!

  1. Solid week for you! I hope that Jeep is okay. I’ve got a 5 mile trail race this weekend that I did not train for . I suppose I need to train for RnRCHI. I’m not in a training mode. Haha!
