marathon training w14

WOW! This week started out with a BIG BANG! I was able to finally get my 20-miler out of my training plan and I hit 500+ miles for the year! And with that…we begin the taper for the Garmin Marathon in 3 weeks…3 WEEKS!! EEEEKK,…I am equally excited and petrified of what that day is going to turn out like… Here we go!

Workout Recap

Marathon Training – Week 14

Sunday- 20.1 mile LOOOOOOONG run

Well, due to the weather and just plain not wanting to get out while potty training the little guy, I pushed my long run to Sunday…and BOY, WAS IT LONG! There were so many times that I wanted to throw in the towel and head home…but I pushed through. At around mile 12 or so, I found a new road that I hadn’t run yet… The change in scenery helped me get through to 14. Once I was at 14, there was 1 more out-and-back that would take me to the 20-mile point to get home. Wow, I feel so much stronger in mindset that I was able to get through that workout!!

Monday- 2 mile shake-out lunch run

With yesterday’s 20-miler on my legs, I wanted to just get out and clear out a little of the residual soreness – a short lunch run was just the trick  : )

Tuesday- 3.13 mile bike to work + 5.12 mile bike over lunch + 3.12 mile bike home

Today was just a day for not running and getting in a little heart pumping time : ) I convinced the hubs to take and pick up little man from daycare so I could bike to work and back. While it is a little on the windy side, I am glad that I was able to!

Wednesday- 2.75 mile morning run + 2.65 mile lunch run

Well, the weather was perfect this morning – so I pushed myself out the door for a morning run! Since the day was going to be beautiful, I also packed my running clothes for a nice lunch run! I decided to make my lunch run a little more interesting by completing my threshold run for the day – yeah, it would have made more sense to do that one BEFORE work, but what can you do?

Thursday- no workout – that is what a “rest day” is for…I think… : )

Friday- 4.5 mile easy run

A beautiful day for a run, that is all : ) Happy legs. Happy heart. Run happy!

Saturday- 3.55 mile run walk with little man

Well, I had all intention of running my last “long run” today…but the warmer weather on Sunday talked me out of it… So we finished the day with a walk!

  1. Wow, you got lots of running in your week! I loved that you biked to work. I used to and loved it, until I got another job that’s just too far away for me to do so. And, I also have the dilemma of driving my son to day care before work. What program do you use to plan your workouts?

    1. We used to live even closer to my work and I would bike most days (for a while)… Then we moved and had our little guy. If I had one of those fancy kid caddy things for my bike, I would totally bike everyday (when the weather allows!). It is just hard when I need to pick him up right after work… Since getting my new Garmin, I have used one of their training plans. It syncs with my app and I can send workouts to my watch 🙂 I really love this feature!
