Weekly Wrap Up & Happenings

running + St. Pats | Weekend Happenings

A weekend at home – I am always game for some local fun!

Friday

This is St. Patrick’s Day!! I wore some green to work, but forgot it in my morning run…I guess my Road ID counts! No pinching here!!

I had a little green with my lunch – spiral cut zucchini + avocado + Franks 🙂 Love!!

Little man got to decide what we did tonight…I suggested the library, but he wanted to go home. So we went home…and since the weather was AMAZING, I sent us outside to play! Well…little man played, I cleaned up the yard…

After a little while, I was tired of our boring backyard…so we headed out for a walk.

Before we got back home, we got a text from the hubs. He was home from work and wondering where we went 🙂 We were soon off to bed and ready for the weekend!

Saturday

My training plan called for 185 total minutes of running – which I equate into 18.5 miles (minutes to miles usually…). Due to the time change, I wasn’t able to claw my way out of bed on time…so I started out a little later than I wanted to. I cut back my pre-group miles a bit, but not quite enough – I was 5-10 minutes late. So I just followed behind the pack. I didn’t catch up during the first loop, but I also cut the route short in a couple places to be sure I could catch up for the second loop. Success!

I finished with 16.5 miles total, not the planned 18.5 – but with my next 18+ miles run next weekend, I let today’s miles slide a little.

Plus, I didn’t want my ride home to have to wait on me to run any more miles 🙂 I also treated her to a little Starbucks for the trouble to take me home…even though we live 1/2 mile away from one another 🙂

I am digging the new teal and yellow Starbucks cups – sooo spring!!

When I arrived home, I noticed that little man’s light was on…yep, he was up! As I talked to him while I took off some of my outer layers, I walked upstairs to find him naked! Well…that was an interesting sight!

img_3723.jpgHe made sure that I knew that he went potty in his potty seat and was getting dressed for the day 🙂 He just hadn’t quite put his clothes on…haha!

We have been a no-diaper house for a month or so now…he has been potty training for over a year, but he wore diapers through the night. The last box was the LAST box – especially since he was dry 6/7+ nights of the week!

We got dressed for the day and headed out the door!

There is a lot going on in town today – so we went out ready to spend most of the morning and early afternoon out of the house.

First stop – Varsity Donuts. This Saturday morning stop has quickly become a little ritual for little man and I – and he doesn’t want to give it up 🙂 Today, there was dough on the bigger table with rolling pins and cookie cutters. That kept him busy for a little while!

After a little while, he bacame bored and went and played on the piano 🙂

There is a local 2 mile run/walk and 10K run on the weekend of St. Pat’s Day, so we headed outside to watch the start of the race! We were cheering for our friends to run fast, but we didn’t see them pass. Come to find out, they ran the 2 mile already and were just sticking around town for the day as well 🙂

We watch the runners pass, clapped for them, yelled at our other running friends, and then headed to the finish to watch them cross the line.

We decided to head over to Rally to meet up with anther friend, but they had already left for lunch…it was about that time already!

Since the wait was long, I took little man over to Subway and we shared a sandwich and he got a cookie treat 🙂

In my naivete, I didn’t think or realize that the parade would have candy or I would have held out on the cookie… oh well! We found a warm spot in the sun to watch the parade!

The sun was bright and warm, and the shade was COLD…so I was little man’s sun shade until the parade started! He was so excited for all the cars, trucks, bikes, dancers, marchers, and firetrucks! The mom next to us gave me a bag for little man’s candy…I didn’t really think that I needed one, but since he was trying to cram his snacks in his little 4T pockets, the bag was a little more handy 🙂

After the parade, we headed home…for a nice, long nap! Little man was quiet slept for 3.5 hours! Not a new record, but still quite a bit of time (he looked like a zombie in the car…so he was going to go down easy…).

After our naps were over, I started making some dinner.

I scoured the pantry and freezer for ideas – so I browned some venison (with added sausage for fat) in a big skillet, cooked some penne rigatoni in a large pot, spiral cut some squash in a little pot, added diced tomatoes and tomato sauce to the browned meat, put some frozen garlic bread in the oven…and PRESTO! Dinner!

Good eats!!

After dinner, the hubs was tired, but I talked him into joining little man and I for a walk around the block 🙂

It got dark fast, so I was glad that he came with us and wasn’t sitting at home worried 🙂

Good day. Good night!

Sunday

My alarms won the battle of the morning…I didn’t have plans to meet anyone, so I wasn’t pressed for time. I just knew that I wanted to run…and then spend time with the family.

So, around 6:15 am, I finally turned off my alarms and decided to hear out to the Konza – and what a great decision that was!

When I showed up, I had to drive slowly due to the deer on the road…then there was a TON of turkeys all around, calling back and forth around the reserve.

I am not sure how long ago the native prairie was burned, but I wish I would have waited to run when it was new grass and lush. Can’t win them all,…but at least there were areas that hadn’t been burned yet 🙂

On my way home, I stopped for coffee for the hubs and I. When I went to the pick-up counter and said I was picking up for “Lindsey”, the gal said with an “E” or “A”. I guess another “Lindsay” in town also pre-ordered and I didn’t want to take her coffee home 🙂

The hubs and little man were up watching a movie in bed when I got home. But before long, little man wanted to be a little cranky and was told to sit on his bed until he calmed down. I took a shower, got out (all is quiet), dried off, got dressed…got ready to head downstairs but peaked into little man’s room to turn off his light – and there he is, just sitting quietly on his bed! For whatever reason, I thought he had headed downstairs with the hubs…well. He said that he was done crying and we could go play now 🙂

We headed downstairs and after some eating and playing, little man wanted to watch a movie. We were just relaxing, and then he was being a cuddle bug 🙂 Love it!

After a little while, he became restless and wanted to play “fishes” – so we caught some fish for a little while.

Around lunchtime, the hubs asked little man if he wanted to go ride 4-wheelers. Of course, he got super excited and said “YES!” Well, after some con-tricks to get him to eat some lunch, they were off to have some daddy/son play time while mommy wasn’t invited stayed at home.

While I would have enjoyed seeing the guys riding around, I knew the purpose of the trip. The guys were making a plan of action to get the pasture burned this spring – welcome to the Flint Hills. The prairie grasses need to be burned to keep the ecosystems in check. All the dads and their little men just went riding around 🙂

While the boys had some fun, I went to the store 🙂 Kid free. All by myself.

Closer to dinnertime, the guys came home. Dirt and all 🙂 The hubs made up some dinner for the grill and we all enjoyed bratwursts, hot dogs, potatoes and onions 🙂

Before too long, it was time for little man to get into the bath and then head for bed. I cuddled up to a book while the hubs watched some basketball and then read his book as well 🙂

Good day. Good night!
