Well…the Hawk 50 has been run and I am in the recovery phase of that training cycle. Or…the “start walking more like a normal person” phase… I believe that my legs are feeling so great because I wore my new SKINS A400 Compression tights for the race! Check out all the great features on my review!
I am starting to think about the future (long term) as well as the rest of this fall’s race schedule! I know that I need to think about my running in the weeks leading up to the Kansas City Marathon on October 21st! Check out why I think you should run the KCM and what I am looking forward to this year!
Weekly Workouts
Monday- OFF : I am better than yesterday, but still in a decent amount of pain. I was aware that I would be in pain for a while after my race…so nothing unexpected!
Tuesday- OFF : I am totally feeling more like a normal person…we’ll see what happens the rest of the week! Going upstairs is fairly easy (slightly painful), but going downstairs is still torture…
After work, little man and I decided to take the dog for a walk…not the greatest idea ever. I think it would have been great just the two of us! But the pup added a new element of stress. She didn’t want to hold the leash in her mouth for very long (like she does when we run), she pulled hard and tried to choke herself out, the leash is orange but is making her mouth/face purple where the wet slobber leash touches her, and she just wanted to run… I finally tucked her leash under her front leg and that helped her from charging ahead and making me want to cry… #post50milewalk #similartothemarathonshuffle
Wednesday- OFF
Thursday- OFF : Little man, the pup, and I went out for an evening walk. I really wanted to leave the pup at home…but little man wouldn’t let me. Oh well…so much for not wanting to be jerked around on a casual walk. It really didn’t turn out that badly. I just looped the leash around her leg from the start and there wasn’t a lot of pulling : )
Friday- 3 easy paced miles
No training plan yet…just getting the feel of running again : ) I went out for an easy run and came back with 3 miles on my legs, feeling good!
Saturday- 6 mile “long” run
Not that I am jumping the gun TOO soon, but I wanted to get back at it! I have a marathon in a little over a month, and I would like to be able to finish it – maybe even with a new PR! I was excited to see everyone again – since I have been out for several weeks.
I also tried a new running app this morning. Go check out the RunGoApp in your Apple or Andriod App Store! The biggest perk is the turn-by-turn navigation… Check it out!!
Sunday- 7.4 miles
A short back-to-back weekend of running to get everything moving again! I have a mini-training plan starting next week! Here we go!!
I didn’t get in any morning run, and with the hubs heading out for the football game, I just relaxed. Later in the evening, a phone call from a friend/cousin wanting to go for a run. I begged to tag along and when we met up, his wife (my running buddy) came too! We had some fun running around the lake roads and then Ang and I also ran home – 3+ for the men, 7.4 for the ladies : )
Weekly Miles : 16 miles + 2 walking miles
1732 / 2,016 miles in 2016
Next Week’s Projected Workouts
Again, we are playing it by ear! I have heard many podcasts with their own ideas of “recovery workouts”…but I am just seeing how I feel and weather or not I can get some set workouts in – intervals, hills (hello KC hills!!), and longs of easy miles!
As I have mentioned a few times already, I am now in training mode for the Kansas City Marathon on October 21st! Have you registered? If not, you totally should and use the offer “BIBRAVE17” at checkout for 15% off your KCM distance of choice! Not ready for a marathon? Register for the 5K, 10K, or half marathon distances too!
I’ll see you on course! I’ll be sporting the BibRave ORANGE!

Baha! The Hawk was great running, that’s for sure! I am trying to get my muscles to remember how to go faster on the road now…low and slow has been the past 18 weeks.

It’s great you were recovered enough to start running this weekend. I think you’ll do great in your upcoming marathon. Your endurance is on point. Ha — it’s almost taper time for that anyway. Thanks for linking!

Yes! I have mentioned to friends before that turn-by-turn would make new routes so much easier! I am sure glad I found the app!
