light up the night with Nathan

Disclaimer: I received a Nathan Luna Fire 250 RX Run Chest/Waist Light to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review find and write race reviews!

I am an early morning runner. Or at least when deep in a training cycle, this is the only time I am guaranteed to be able to get in my mileage. If I had my choice, my running times would vary greatly throughout the year – early in the summer and mid-day in the winter.

Since I don’t always have a choice in the matter, I do what I can to feel safe and comfortable in the dark, early morning hours. The two biggest checks in my gear list :

Reflective gear ✔️
Light ✔️

When it comes to lights, I have tried several – headlamps, hand lights, light vest, and flashing “tail lights”. When the opportunity to try a Chest/Waist light, I jumped at the chance to try something new! I love running hands-free and this new light option sounded great!

Fresh out of the box, my Nathan Luna Fire had a strong light stream with several intensities :

  • 33 Lumens ( Low)
  • 100 Lumens (Med)
  • 200 Lumens (Hi)
  • 250 Lumens (Boost)
  • 100 Lumens (White/Strobe)

I know better than to go for a run without knowing how well my light is charged, so I opted to plug it in for a full charge before my first run.

My first run with my Nathan Luna Fire happened to be the group run with 20+ other BibRave Pros at the TRE Influencer Day in Austin, TX. With a 6:30am meet up, I was able to scoot on over to the meeting hotel with my Nathan fully blazing!

I am to the right of Tim (his back to the camera) with my Nathan Luna Fire while out for the BibRave Pro group run!

Even though the sun soon came up, I felt like the beam of the Nathan Luna Fire 250 RX Chest/Waist light was sufficient at the lowest setting! Even after I turned the light off, I was comfortable leaving the light at my waist thru the remainder of our run.

Once back in Kansas, I have been hitting the dark roads less often, but I have still been wear testing the Nathan Luna Fire. I have really liked the Chest/Waist strap. I have found that I prefer it to my headlamp on my head…

The versatility of the Nathan Luna Fire 250 RX Chest/Waist light is great! If I am wearing more bulky clothes, I can take the lamp off the chest/waist belt and attach it to my jacket. While the light bounces a little bit more, the beam is still bright enough to light the way.

Here are a few more specifications from the Nathan website on the Nathan Luna Fire 250 RX Chest/Waist light :

  • 250 max Lumen main LED
  • Lithium-ion Polymer Rechargeable via USB – a big perk compared to battery charged lights
  • 25+ hour burn time
  • IPX4 – Weather resistant
Testing the comfort of the Nathan Luna Fire during the daytime too!
