This weekend came and went in a hurry! Whenever we plan on traveling over the weekend, the time flys so much faster than one that is just spent at home… The 2 hour drive back and forth to KC makes the weekend feel so much shorter…
Be sure to check out last weeks marathon training and meal prepΒ posts as well!
Saturday
I have a bad habit of not getting up with my alarm…even though I KNOW I should. This Saturday morning wasn’t all that different. I planned on running 15-17 miles before he hubs needed to leave for work…and I would rather leave too early than too late. While 10 minutes isn’t a LATE start, it is when I want to get from my house to the start of the group run by 5:30am with an easy, long run starting pace… Oh well! Better luck with next weekends run!
My long run was a brisk, sweat, slow paced run…my reward: an absolutely gorgeous sunrise! I wish I could have captured the entire sky!
Once I returned home, the little man was awake and upset no one was listening to his yelling. Good morning birthday boy! (Crazy morning hair don’t care!) I shared my post run banana with him as I took off my sweat soaked running clothes.
Once he was dressed for the morning,, we went downstairs and got some more breakfast around. Eggs and oranges (to add to the banana) for the little guy, a spinach, blueberry, vanilla protein smoothie for me! Oh course, he wants everything I have…so I also split my smoothie with him π
While I cleaned up the kitchen, little ma had fun running around the living room…and his new love for pockets was found!
More recently, most pictures end up like this, he is trying to see what I am taking a picture of π
Time for a motorcycle ride around the living room
As the morning ran on, we decided to take the hubs lunch. For whatever reason, this meant that he was reed to take his Willie along for the ride…nothing like driving 10-15 minutes hearing “We Will Rock You” playing constantly π
Before going to the hubs work, we stopped at the bi-weekly winter farmers market. Some of the vendors always recognize the little man and are waiting to give high five – his favorite π Today, he decided that he needed to wear his hat AND sunglasses…everywhere…even though it was getting decently warm…for January, in KS.
We ended up getting 2 HUGE sweet potatoes, some chopped mushrooms, homemade lip balm, and a couple cookies from the market. Since the market didn’t have hot sandwiches (as it does most times), we then took a trip to the grocery store for the hubs lunch. I found some “sushi” that I wanted to try for lunch π We dropped off lunch with the hubs and headed home…
Once home, little man was a zombie and needed to take a nap…he found it a little, but I put him down, fussed a little, and passed out quick! Hallelujah!
My lunch consisted of said “sushi” and snacking while I meal prepped.
While he was down, I went to Crazy Town with meal prep for the week (since we planned on being out of town Sunday). I prepped 1 huge sweet potato to roast, made an egg bake, decided to chop the second (even BIGGER) sweet potato to roast, chopped summer squash to roast, prepped fresh vegetables, set out fresh fruit, and divided up some Greek yogurt for easy snacks. All meal prep for the coming week can be found on the egg sandwich + vegetables meal prep post!
While the vegetables and potatoes were roasting, the little guy was ready to get up. He was out for more than 2 hours! Since the last couple weekend have been relatively nap-free, this was an exciting afternoon! Little man was welcomed with a sweet potato taster…he LOVED sweet potatoes as a little-er guy but now does let know if he cares for them… Oh well!
After a snack, I put on a movie (Monster vs Aliens for the 6173930th time) so I could finish up in the kitchen. Movie time = popcorn, every time! This was the first time little man lasted for more than 10 minutes into a movie…yes!
Once the movie watching time was up, we resorted to coloring a little!
I started packing overnight bags and the little guy decided that his blankets didn’t need to be packed and needed to be used π
After the hubs got home, we packed up and hit the road. The little man talked, singed, yelled, etc most of the trip…and passed out with about 20 minutes left until he drive… Once at the grandparents house, he was on alert and in full sleepy-crazy-train mode! Oh man! It is…9:30pm or so and that means he wants to eat, doesn’t want to eat what was put in front of him, run around like a crazy human, take a bath, run around screaming some more…and refuse to go to bed. Good thing either Nana or Papa put him down for the night…
Sunday
My alarm won the morning battle several times…but I finally got my Sunday recovery run in. I also signed up for a virtual 5K the other day that was for this weekend…Skinny Minion 1st Annual 5K π I dedicated the first 5K of my recovery run to this virtual event and ealked back home the rest of the way. This was not a 5K I would be proud to report a time on…but sometimes a run is a run is a run.
Once returning, I got cleaned up and ate breakfast.
I was working on my breakfast when Stephanie and Juliana came over to play! This is the (most of the time) regular, guaranteed time I can see these gals – anytime I am in KC. The kiddos play and we gab π
After the ladies hit the road, little man ate lunch and went down for a nap. The hubs went to Bass Pro and I just hung out… I started frosting birthday cupcakes and the hubs came home and kidnapped me to go brew hopping π
First stop : Border Brewing Co
We both started with a flight of 4 : Backwood Blonde, Β Patio Pale Ale, Campfire Porter, and Chocolate Milk Stout – for me. The hubs tried all of the offerings, including : Rooftop Red Ale, Imperial Coffee Stout, Shiftie IPA, and ESB on Nitro. We have been meaning to check out the craft brew scene in KC for a while and today is as good of a day as any π
I enjoyed his bar! It was low key, but had a lot of KC home-town pride π There was Royals memorabilia in the walls, the fermenters and brine tanks in plain view, neat lighting, a calm, cool atmosphere, and great craft beer! I really enjoyed my flight and I could see coming back here is the future, fo sho π
Favorite beers : chocolate milk stout & backwood blonde
Second stop : Double Shift Brewing Company
Honestly, the only reason we came here is because the hubs noticed it outside the window of Border Brewing…they are not door!
Both the hubs and I tried the full taster flight, 6 beers : Black IPA, Abbey Dubbel, River Pirate Oatmeal Stout, Briar & Bramble Pub Ale, 18th Street Pale Ale, and Don’t Call Me Radio IPA. This place was nice, had good beer – but the atmosphere left a little to be desired. There were more people here, but the loud people noise and loud music was a little stressful – not as relaxing an experience.
Favorite beers : 18th street pale ale & abbey dubbel
Third stop : Border Brewing Company (back to the first!)Β
We enjoyed the first bar more…and since it was on the walk to the car, we stopped again! The hubs surely enjoyed Border more and wanted to make the extra stop π The hubs had another ESB while I enjoyed some ice cold water π We chatted up the bartender because the hubs knew him (and the owner) from college. Figuring out the connections was the funniest part of the conversation π
Once we checked the time, we needed to get back to the house! We were having some of the family over to the in-laws for a birthday dinner for the little man – he is 2!!!!! Lots of eats, lots of sweets, and a fun time had by all!
After the commotion died down, the little man took a bath with Papa, ran some of the sugar off, and settled down for bed. I wasn’t feeling great and opted to veg out on the couch (where I would wake up several hours later, covered with a blanket, and the lights out). The hubs went out and hung out with some old friends – it isn’t often that he gets to see them after all!
Monday Morning
I guess the weekend isn’t over until you are home again…which left us traveling at the butt-crack of dawn to get back to Manhattan for little man’s 2yr doctors appointment and work for the both of us adult humans…
How was your weekend? Did you travel?
I’d love to hear from you! Leave a comment and start a conversation!

I love to catch a beautiful sunrise while running. That is an awesome pic. Chocolate milk stout…I think I would definitely drink that. Happy Birthday to the little man. He is just adorable. I’m always very impressed with your meal prep and admit I need a lot of help in that area. Oh, and that song is now stuck in my head! Thanks for linking with us Lindsey!

That was the first GREAT one I have seen in a while! Or I am back home before the sun rises… Meal prepping is my saving grace throughout the week. I am perfectly content with the “same thing every day” so I don’t worry too much about variety. It does change week to week though!

Ok educate me on this flight thing. You can tell I’m not a beer drinker, but as some have said I’ve just not found my beer yet… So this is like at beer tasting? Please tell me these are not full sized glasses? Are they like shots? I apologize for all the questions, I guess we just don’t have this here? Maybe we do and I don’t know about it? Thanks for linking I hope you can get me up to speed on this! π

Flights are like 2-3oz tasters of beer π Having a flight is a good way to try the different beers on tap. Most brew pubs and breweries have this option to try a sampling of their brews π My hubs is a beer brewer (home brew) and aspires to open his own brewery someday!

Ahhhh I see. That would be a good way for me to find one I like. I’ll have to inquire about this. Maybe not local but with the amount of traveling we do, maybe in a bigger city. Thanks so much for the clarification.

No problem! My hubs is a beer buff – so he likes trying all kinds of beer and giving his 2 cents π I just like trying new/different things and flights are just enough to taste without needing to choke down 5-10 oz of a full beer I didn’t care for.
