Friday
This weekend is going to be a busy one…so I was glad that I was able to get to my Friday morning yoga session at the gym.
Thank goodness I was able to get in a little “me time” in the morning because work was long (longer than I expected since we were allowed to leave early…) and Friday night was gone so fast!
Saturday
I started my Saturday morning with a trip to JC – yep, no morning long run this week (save that for Sunday!). I haven’t contributed to a Bountiful Basket in months (mostly because they shut down for 8 weeks and then I have been out of town each weekend…) and I am really excited to see how the new baskets look π
Well, I left home a little late, so I decided NOT to get coffee on the way.
Then…the truck was over an hour late! (should have stopped for coffee!!) Oh well…we all relaxed, talked, and just passed the time…
Once the truck came, it was an unloading party and we had all 76 sets of baskets prepped for the masses π
Once I got my basket and additions (….sweet potatoes!! 40 lbs of those suckers!!) I headed out, quickly! I needed to get home before the hubs left for work! I wasn’t anticipating a late truck…or I would have brought little man with me in the first place!
But first…coffee!
When I got home, little man was awake. So we started the day!
Before too long, I wanted to go through my basket to see what all I got this week!
- a bag of apples
Also, I got a box of sweet potatoes – 40 lbs in fact! These will last a little while…a couple weeks at least! π
I divided up the fruit and put the grapes in easy-to-grab-in-the-morning baggies.
Little man requested to watch “Cars” so he settled in with some “juice” (Nuun Lemonade) while I sorted my produce π
Before long, it was nap time for little man – yeah, it was a little early for naptime, but since we have a birthday party to go to this afternoon, I figured I would try!
Nap time = meal prep time
Roasted sweet potatoes…check!
Spiralized zucchini and summer squash…check!
Cauliflower “rice” …check!
A little afternoon delight for mom, yes!
Once little man was up, which isn’t too hard to tell by the stomping feet…we headed to Clay Center for Kinsley’s 4th birthday party! I made up a Maca drink – I could really use the energy boost!
We had fun seeing family and friends at the birthday party! There were snacks, cake, ice cream, and balloons – everything a kid could want! Oh course, the only thing my kid wants is Nana…so that was where he camped out for a while π
After the party, we headed over to Great-Nana Rosie’s house to watch the rest of the KSU football game. Go Cats! Little man had fun with stickers and his balloon…and of course, Daisy! Too many Daisy kisses for sure!
Nana wanted to take little man outside to wear him out a little – so they raked leaves!
The new phrase little man says in the highest pitch is, “Can I step on it?” He loves jumping in the leaves and running through the piles π
Before long, everyone was talking about getting dinner. We headed out to the local pizza joint – both Nana’s in hand π
I really enjoyed the thin crush veggie lovers we ordered – but the place was a bit of a mess… There were a lot of tables with previous dinner goers plates all over, our check was messed up, and the salad bar was slim pickings… Oh well, we ate! And then we headed home π
Sunday
The last event of Saturday night was laying out my clothes and things for my Sunday morning run in Lawrence!
I was able to get dressed super fast Sunday morning…but I was still running late. Since I was running late, I was able to stop by Starbucks and I was the first to order π
The one thing that is good about the time change is I now get to have sunrise runs again! Granted, I wasn’t running quite yet this morning, but it was a great sight on the morning drive!
Once I got to Lawrence, I was able to find parking relatively close and book it to the start area!
I was a little late to the show…but I was ready to run!! I was literally walking up to the pacers photo opp…and then it was over before I could jump in! Oh well, maybe next time!
My co-pacer Melissa and I connected with our runners before the start. This is the first time meeting Melissa and she has a great amount of energy in the morning! I am usually the super talkative, bouncing-off-the-walls pacer, but I totally let her take the reins on that! I could use the energy π
Get ready to run!! – yes, even you Mr. Not Morning Runner!!
I really love when races work with Mile90 – they take amazing pictures, and a lot of them! This was Melissa and I coming through the start area π
It was hard for me to capture the runners down Mass on my phone while running…so Mile90 did an awesome job for me! π 1700 runners this morning!
Once we got going, Melissa soon started her 3:1 intervals and the people that wanted to hang out with her fell back. I had a great group of ladies that aimed to run with the 2:45 lead pace and my group formed!
The conversation was always light and easy. I kept everyone informed about water stops walks, how to run the hills more effectively, and kept the mood light!
At mile 4, we started talkin about running half marathons, virtual races, and ultra marathons. “M” mentioned a “local trail race” that she recommended – Konquer the Konza. WHAT?! Konquer is in Manhattan, I live in Manhattan, and I love running the Konza π This is where we figured out that we were all living in Manhattan! What are the odds?! New running pals were born – well, I was at least another leg added to the team, maybe! I would love to see these ladies running around town or in the local running groups!
We had a great time the rest of the race! I kept pushing them and they let me π
Around mile 12.25 or so, I kicked them all out – GO FINISH YOUR RACE!! I am never nice about it either…ha! Everyone could use the extra push at the end!
Most of the gals finished ahead of me and I swept the walkers in under my 2:45 time!
After I finished, I handed off my stick so I could head back out and motivate the last of the gals in the finishing strong. She was really giving it gas and finished so strong!! I was glad that I was able to keep most of my runners throughout the race and help them finish ahead of me! I looked back through the photos and saw a lot of the gals that kept up with us the whole race and finished a few minutes ahead of us π Proud running momma moment!!
After the race, I ran into the Manhattan gals several more times π They are so nice and I hope that I will be able to spend more time with them in our neck of the woods π
I meandered around and found the refreshment area – snack bars, fruit, water, sports drinks, etc. I also found a fellow pacer, Melinda! We will be co-pacing next weekend and it is always nice to have runner friends to connect with!
My pit crew came to watch me finish! π
We wandered around the finishing area for a little while and then headed out of town. The hubs wanted to go by a brewery in town, but they didn’t open for a little while, so we just headed to Topeka.
We area lunch and tried some beers at the Blind Tiger. The beers were great (a fruit platter of sorts – apricot, peach, etc.) and the food hit the spot. I ordered the special for the day – homemade chicken noodles with mashed potatoes. Yum!
After lunch, we stopped my another brewery – the Happy Bassett. The hubs ordered a beer and we watched a little of the Chiefs game.
We didn’t stick around for too long because everyone was getting tired…so we headed home. Little man held out for a while…but eventually napped for a bit!
When we got home, I put little man in his room to take an actual nap – and he was down for another hour or so! He wanted to put on his jammies for nap time, so he was in jammies for the rest of the night π
Rest and relaxation. Perfect ending to a busy weekend!
