Thinking Out Loud

running around | Thinking Out Loud

Wow,… Thursday…we meet again!…There is a little to talk about with Amanda and her Thinking Out Loud Thursday’s šŸ™‚

Thinking-Out-Loud

But first…

Let’s go for a run!Ā šŸ™‚Ā

SIKE…I have been horrible about getting up early for my runs this week…and today is only a little different. I only hit my snooze a few times and I was up by 5:30!!Ā

The iffy weather had me wanting to go to the gym…but I have been messing around the house…and now my run will happen over my lunch break…

At least my laundry is caught up by one load, my dishes are put away, my sink is clean, the pets are all fed, my lunch run bags are packed, lunch is made…yeah. #lifehappens #excusesnottoberunning

2017 checklist

I found this list on Instagram the other day (from @sbsox1) – and it made a lot of sense! I would love to be able to incorporateĀ this list more day to day…

This week has been a failure on the waking up early…but that isn’t going to fly this weekend (read below)! For the most part, I use all/most of these in my daily life without really thinking about it.

I really need to show more gratitude and appreciate the little things šŸ™‚

…snakes!!

Well, I was confrontedĀ with my first snake of the spring on the trail the other day…

There was a biker that passed me on the trail. After a bit, I came across a funny looking “stick”… Since I don’t care about sticks, it didn’t occur that it was anything other than a stick! SIKE! As I started to step near it, the stick started slithering like crazy!! I think the biker scared it up (or ran over it a little) and it was still on the trail when I came by…

Scared the crap out of me, for a second at least… I then took a short video of it to send to the hubs and my FIL – they are snake loving men.

Of course, the hubs come back with some crazy message – “Don’t touch it! That’s a highly venomous ring necked pit viper! Baby, but still very dangerous!!!”Ā

…side eye…

Either way, venomous or not, I do not look forward to running into more snakes on the trail this year…

AMR – BAMR

Well, now that I am almost 1/2 way caught up with the Another Mother Runner podcast, I am finally getting around to reading one of their books!

As I type this, my public library e-mailed me that my book purchase for the other two books, “Train Like A Mother” and “Tales From Another Mother Runner” were both purchased and are waiting for me to pick up! Yay!!

Konza trail training

I am going to seriously need to move some long runs to Sunday’s to get out on the trails…my legs are a little sore this week from taking the Konza stairs twice on Sunday. I need to take that hill MANY more times…

Plus, the sunrise makes the morning run ALL that much better!!

I also need to head out to Clinton Lake this summer to run the trails I’ll be conquering in September in my first 50m – whoa! Getting closer everyday!

…I need this

Haha! I totally am going to have this shirt made for this summer – maybe in a tank. I might even open a small store front to sell a few to some crazy running friends of mine as well šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

it’s wicked!!

This weekend is my first 1/2 marathon of the year!

I will be running the Wicked half Marathon in Wamego, KS. I really like the transparencyĀ of the communicationon parking, routes, the medal, and other event info! Check out that medal! There is still time to register – come run with me!! There are several distance options including a full marathon, half marathon, and 5k!

The only “silly business” about this race is that it needs to be built into my long run for the weekend.Ā

My workout calls for 13.5 easy, then 4.5 at marathon race pace…which usually just means a faster finish than the easy miles for me.

So…I plan on running some “warm-up” miles before the race, running the first 8 or so “easy paced” and picking it up the last 5 to the finish. I am not looking or aiming for any PRs this weekend…just a medal at the end of a long, hard long run! šŸ˜‰

runners vs. joggers

Thank you Christina for making me think a little harder this morning…more like a “you are so totally right” moment.Ā

In her most recent post “Joggers vs. Runner : This Surprised Me“, Christina discusses how : “When it comes to news, ā€œrunnersā€ tend to be associated more with greater positive achievements i.e. setting records, reaching goals, winning, and ā€œjoggersā€ tend to be murdered, or assaulted.”

With the recent news reports of women going missing on their runs and women fighting back their attackers, I have certainly been more on alertĀ on my runs!Ā

Whether I am avoiding Ā running an area on the trail that I KNOW has homeless people living, or avoiding a dark alley that I haven’t run before, or keeping to my tried and true running routes – I find myself second guessing new adventures.

I certainly do not think of myself as a jogger…I don’t jog anywhere. While I am not a fast runner (no records breaking here), I am a R.U.N.N.E.R.Ā I am a 5/10K runner (not typically, but they pop up from time to time). I am a half marathon runner. I am a marathon runner. I am a ultra marathon runner – yes, there is walking and super slow running, but I am making my way!Ā

Have you ever been thrown off being called a jogger (if/when you call yourself a runner)? How did you react?Ā

Happy Thursday!!

The work week is almost over…yet it still feels so far away… Have a great Thursday!!
