Tuesdays on the Run

the good, bad, and ugly | Tuesday’s On The Run

It’s Tuesday‘s On The Run day… ErikaMarcia, and Patty are discussing our best and worst race photos…so let’s dive in!

Personally, I have a love/hate relationship with race photos. I love them because they can be so telling of the enjoyment of the day…and then I also hate them because they can be so telling of the hardships of the day… Funny how that happens!

There is nothing like the joy of a spot on jump shot!

Yes, pacing is ALWAYS this fun! – Rock The Parkway Half Marathon
I can even get a little air at the end of a full marathon! – Garmin Marathon

Or the lack of good finish line photo…

Sometimes your form and body can be spot on and look great!

Happy, happy moment to come through the halfway point of my first 50M race – Hawk 50M

Other times, I feel less than excited to see my thunder thighs and the extra skin moving around in most of the pictures taken that day.

While I know my legs are big and strong, I don’t always love when photographers catch my legs in all their glory…
Later on in the day – same leg shots. Love those trails!

For a good portion of my trail races, the amazing crew of Mile90 has taken amazing pictures of me enjoying the trails!

Into the woods at the Alternate Chili 10M trail run
I am the one closest to the camera (with no head) – but I love this shot at the Hawk 50M

…and other times where they are hiding in the bushes and they don’t exactly catch me looking fresh…

WHAH!! She scared me a little on this one…hiding in the bushes in the first mile of the Alternate Chili 10M trail run – not to mention the hydration pack UNDER my shirt.
This picture haunts me to this day…ha! Nothing like looking like I haven’t slept in a week and I want to die in the first few miles of a long, hot day… at the Psycho Psummer 50K trail run

Either way, race photos can tell a story. Whether it is a story of joy…or defeat, similar to race times, the race photos last forever. Ha!

Major R.B.F. shade given to the photographer that I didn’t know was a photographer…and I was hurting at mile 23..so yeah. – KCM
The joy of finishing! (plus, I finished with a waffle in my hand, winning!)
The crazy high of finishing a BIG race…haha! Or just a little crazy…

What are your favorite race photos?

Do you try the jumping shot?

  1. I only ever end up with a couple photos at best, at my 10k in March there were none. Sometimes I feel like races forget about me as a slow runner…. I love the shots where you can tell how determined I am!

  2. I’ve never tried a jumping pose during a race, I’m sure I’d screw it all up! I raced last weekend and darn it if my finish line photos aren’t awful…I look so miserable!

  3. My favorite picture is the one from the Garmin Marathon this year. I’ve shown that picture to about 50 people at work so far. I think everyone is starting to get sick of me bragging about your running!
