It’s that time of the year again! Summer sweat leads for fall PRs…or something like that.

This isn’t exactly the case for me this year. With a 3 month old at home, my running hasn’t been my highest priority…heck, I feel like I have completely fallen off the blogging rails! But I am looking forward to a little solo running time.

This will be my 4th year running the Kansas City Marathon events — 3rd time running the half marathon. Here are a few reasons I enjoy this race year after year!

Kansas City Half Marathon

  • swag swag swag

The Kansas City Marathon planning team has their work cut out for them year after year.

The medals continue to impress each year and the soft-style tees are a great change to the typical scratchy cotton tee.

In addition, KCM has partnered with Goodr — all half and full marathon participants will receive a free pair of KCM branded Goodr sunglasses. I have not worn this brand before and I can always use a good pair of running sunglasses!

With any luck, I will be looking fly in my FREE high resolution race photos — yes, FREE. Now I just need to keep an eye out for the photographers along the course…

  • a distance for every runner

Whether you are a seasoned marathoner or training for your first 5K, the Kansas City Marathon weekend gives you a run for your money…literally! Those KC hills will make you honest with your training and the downhill finish will help you with a strong kick at the end!

  • well supported event

I am not a fan of carrying my water these days…so having aid stations every 1.5-2 miles (depending on the course) will make the miles go by a little more easily. For the half marathon, I will be able to take advantage of 8 aid stations! Plus, the spectators come out in droves. Go vote on your favorite spectator zone in your post-race survey — make those zones EARN their votes!

  • finish line goodies

I cannot wait to hit the finish line…food, beer, music, PLEASE!

From listening to the Kansas City Marathon podcasts over the last couple months, I learned about the Operation BBQ Relief team serving pulled pork sandwiches at the finish line party, the variety of local beers served, and live music. I don’t typically stick around finish line festivals for very long…so we’ll see how it goes!

  • new friends

Whether I am meeting up with old or new friends, or making new friends along the way, there is something special about joint joy and misery in the process of getting from the start to finish line of any event.

I will hopefully see some familiar faces and meet a new-to-me BibRave Pro Cassie! If you see me in my BibRave orange, say hello!!

How did your training week go? What are you training for?

I’d love to hear from you! Leave a comment and start a conversation!
