What a week! The weather was crazy…and not in a good way. Which meant that the trails for my weekend race were not so great… “Take what the trail gives you” has a whole new meaning for me now – because I took 5 pounds of the trail with me home… Here’s my last week for this training cycle!
Also, congrats Melinda on wining the Brilliant Reflective strips from last week! I will e-mail you shortly 🙂
weekly workouts : week 13 (feb 19)
4 miles OFF
Whoops! As Mondays always being my day off through this training cycle, I didn’t even check to see if I had a run this morning – I assumed I didn’t. I assumed wrong. Oh well…
3 miles 4 miles
I have heard of thunder-snow…but not thunder-sleet. Yeah…that is what I woke up to. A frozen solid car and iceballs coming from the sky…with thunder and lightening… Mother Nature, you are crazy!! needless to say, I didn’t get in a morning run, but I did pack my trail shoes and some warm layers to attempt a lunch jaunt.
This weekend is looking to be an interesting one for 30 technical trail miles…crossing my fingers that it clears up some!
Over dressing and over eating made today a little tougher than it should have been…and really, it wasn’t “hard” but my HR was higher than I wanted it to be for the level of effort… Oh well! At least the ice pellets on the road/trail didn’t make traction a major issue!! • My @skinssportswear kept my legs feeling fresh and @pjuractive #2skin kept my chafe-able areas chafe-free 😉😉 Both will be tested BIG TIME this weekend!! #SKINSorNOTHING #bestincompression #riseup #pjuractive #pjuractive2skin #bibchat #bibravepro #motherrunner #bamr #ultratraining #womenrunners #trailrunners
2 miles 3 miles
I know that I should just run the 2 scheduled miles…but I feel dumb for not running on Monday. So I just shifted Monday/Tuesday to Tuesday/Wednesday… My running buddy is training for her first marathon and I think she gets a kick out of days that she has more miles that I do…so at least I am not tagging along for her 8 this morning!
Call me taper crazy… . I am not ready for this weekend’s run…not at all. 1️⃣ I haven’t run in the rain 2️⃣ I haven’t completed any running with stream crossings and wet feet 3️⃣ I didn’t hit the trails I wanted to for the distance I wanted to… . But I am going to go out there and take what the trail gives me…and I hope that is a finish and not a cold… . At least I will have my @skinssportswear & @pjuractive #2skin to keep my legs & feet happy through the wet, rugged miles! . #skinsornothing #bestincompression #riseup #pjuractive #pjuractive2skin @brilliant_reflective #bebrilliant #bibchat #bibravepro #trainingforultra #ultratraining #motherrunner #bamr
Thursday- 2 miles
More snow and ice…so no morning run, but I head out for a couple of lunch miles before the next “storm” comes in this afternoon!
More icy/snow to come…so I went for a couple slippery, splashing miles for lunch • The weather isn’t always going to be perfect…same as life. You just take what the day gives you and run with it, literally 😉 • @pjuractive #2skin #antichafegel #pjuractive2skin #bibchat @garminfitness #beatyesterday @uarunning @fitapproach #sweatpink #motherrunner #bamr #trainingforultra #ultratraining
A morning jaunt with the pup (meeting up with my pal for like 0.5 a mile) – I was just happy I didn’t slip on the fresh ice…
An easy 2 miles isn’t quite so easy with icy conditions and a pulling, eager lab…but we made it work! • We both could use the fresh, cool 30*F air ❤️ • Check out @brilliant_reflective and their reflective safety strips and save 25% using the discount code “BRP25” at checkout! #beseenfirst #bebrilliant #bibchat #runchat #motherrunner #bamr #ultratraining #raceweek
50K Race 20 mile mud bath
While I didn’t get the finish I set out for, I was able to accomplish the hardest 20 miles ever. constant mud that got worse with each 10 mile loop…
Today didn’t go as planned…no ifs ands or buts about it. • The snow/ice/rain over the past week was just too much and the trail was simply destroyed… So. Much. Mud. • While we didn’t have the day we set out for, we stayed entertained! A learning experience for both Tara and I – and better perspective for the next 👍 • Thank you Trail Nerds for the amazing support on the trails! We will be back… #trailnerds • #bibchat @skinssportswear #skinsornothing @pjuractive #2skin #pjuractive2skin @nathansportsinc @salomon @tailwindnutrition #tailwindnutrition #gotailwind @lilytrotters @uarunning @goatheadgear @garminfitness #beatyesterday @momentumjewelry

Next Week’s Projected Workouts
This week will be a bit of recovery from the 50K – and the amazing weather is taunting me outside… No actual plan for running, but I am going to take it easy!
The next race on the books is actually for a pacing event – the Garmin Marathon in April. So my miles will be in prep for that event!
Following Garmin is the Hospital Hill Re-Run weekend June 2-3! Are you running that/those race(s)?! If not, you totally should join me! I plan to run the 5K on Friday night and half marathon Saturday morning. You can save 15% off any distance using the code “BIBHHR18” at checkout. Register today to save the most – the next price increase is March 1st!
