Weekly Wrap Up & Happenings

birthday boy | Weekend Happenings

This past week

It cracks me up when I can go from one week just posting my Weekly Workouts and Weekend Happenings to the next week posting almost every day… Some weeks are just better set for blogging I guess!

This week I posted my Weekly Workouts (training for my next marathon as a pacer for the 5:30 finishing time at the Garmin Marathon in April), What I Ate on Wednesday – clean eating this week (…and every week!!, hopefully), Thinking Out Loud – random thoughts throughout the week, and Runfessions for January ( I JUST added “Runfessions” to my dictionary so it isn’t spell-checked anymore…)!

Busy busy week…but it didn’t really feel like it! I wish every week were this easy feeling…

Friday

I always enjoy starting my Friday with a run – today isn’t any different!! Since I am working on eating cleaner, this is the last day of my clean eating challenge 🙂

After work, I picked up little man from daycare and we made an evening of going to the store 🙂 Ha! The store?! My little man loves going to the grocery store because of the huge carts that look like cars…so, most days, he is VERY content with his decision to ride shotgun 🙂 We walked around a little and fulfilled our purpose by purchasing candles for this weekends sweet treats! We headed home, vegged out watching a movie, and called it a night!

Saturday

I started my Saturday morning super early – or longest long run early – so I could get back and take care of a few things before little man got up…

When I got home, I hopped in the shower, but by the time I was getting out, little man was pouting at his door for me…45 minutes before his usual wake up time… Okay, not as planned, but okay!

I got my drinks of choice ready, a little breakfast snack for little man (who is OBSESSED with peanut butter and pretzels at the moment – every meal, asks for it – no lies), and started on the laundry that I was going to do while he was still asleep! While I was organizing, he started playing with his cars 🙂 Always in lines…

When the laundry was complete, little man wouldn’t let me go put it away without watching my every move…so we headed upstairs!

Mr. Barley has decided that since little man is no longer using his changing table (for the obvious diaper changing – which hasn’t happened in a very, very long time), it is now his bed – when the gate is left unlatched at least.

As I am putting away his clothes, little man starts going through his book shelf…

At some point, he completely took all the books out of one of the cubes and made a big mess…but at least he put them away after.

In the time that we were upstairs, I was able to also organize a lot of the clothing boxes in his room, sort out the “can wear now” from the “too small” and “will fit into soon”… So many clothes!!

Before long, it was time for us to get ready to go to Clay Center and visit some family. I planned on going out to spend the afternoon with little man’s great-grandparents and family. We weren’t completely sure who all was going to be in Clay today since little man’s great-grandpa was in the hospital last week…I wasn’t told if he was released or not… but it was a great surprise to see him up and around when we walked in the door 🙂

We played around a little bit before lunch was served. Aunt Sheri helped me out with the food and everyone was pleased with the meal! – meatloaf cupcakes with mashed potato and cheese topping, broccoli salad, mixed vegetables, jello,…the works!! I ate way too much (the image below is round 1 – I had a couple more meatloaf cupcakes and I couldn’t stop eating the broccoli salad!!).

Once lunch was over, the sweets were brought out!! Oh my, this is probably what did me in for the afternoon… Cupcakes, more cupcakes, apple pie, and a layered chocolate peanut butter desert! Too many sweets…

Little man was READY for his birthday cupcake and was REALLY excited for the candles 🙂

Once we had made a good mess, we were ready to open some presents 🙂

The best gift?! The dollar store party blowers…little man calls them “snakes”. He LOVED them and didn’t really care to open any other gifts after… At least he was happy!!

Before we dug into opening all the boxes of cars and trucks and markers and stuff, we needed a nap. Yes, we. I was not feeling all that great…might have been since the house was quite warm and the food that I happily consumed (…even though my body isn’t used to the amount of sweet…).

A couple hours later, we were up and ready to play!!

Since I wasn’t feeling great, I lounged in the chair and watched little man playing with his toys and family 🙂 Once in a while, he would come over and jump on my lap (make me want to be sick…) to give me hugs. Sweet boy!! We hung around the house longer than I planned… So I text the hubs to start dinner when he got home…

When we finally got home, the hubs had started dinner and was almost ready to eat! The boys ate some brats and chips, and I tended to my tummy with some kombucha… Before too long, we were vegged out and just relaxing 🙂

Off to bed for little man, off to the garage for the hubs, and I chilled out on the couch for a bit before heading to bed as well 🙂

A wonderful day! Tomorrow will be fun as well!

Sunday

To some, the snooze button is their friend for a little extra sleep…but I battled the snooze!! I WANTED to get up and get my run in before the day got too hectic, but my body just didn’t want to move. I decided not to run and just tended to little man and the house…

I planned on making cookies after nap time yesterday, but since we stayed in Clay, that didn’t happen. So, I thought that it would be fun to make cookies first thing Sunday morning!

I am not good about finding new recipes – well, I can find recipes, but they don’t always turn out… Thank you Janae for posting the recipe we tried this time around! She posted pictures on her blog and they looked great!! I totally would have asked for it if she hadn’t linked to it last week 🙂 If you are lazy and don’t want to look it up, here it is!

In a mixing bowl, add :

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup butter melted

Mix previous ingredients and then add :

  • 2 eggs

Mix well and add :

  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 2 tsp water mixed with one tsp baking soda
  • 3 cups flour (add one cup at a time)

Then fold in 3/4 bag of chocolate chips!

Bake at 350 for exactly ten minutes. Take them out and let them finish cooking on the pan. Janae likes the dough chilled for at least an hour, so that’s what we did – but they are still good when you don’t.

Once we started chilling the cookie dough, Nana and Papa showed up! They played and talked for a little bit, and then it was time for little man to go down for nap time! While the nap schedule was the same as always, it snuck up on us quickly. I still had some things to do before the party at 3pm!

We headed to the store to get some snacks and drinks and I finished baking the cookies, adding sprinkles to iced cupcakes, and laying out the food.

Once little man was up, he knew it was time to party 🙂 Papa helped him put on his shoes and try out his new hand-made step!

About this time, the cousins started showing up! We don’t have a lot of room in our house (flash backs to people all sitting on the floor at little man’s 1st birthday party) so we just had 2 of the cousin’s families over for snacks and fun!

Paisley felt a little left out…but she would have been jumping on everyone to greet them…and we just didn’t need THAT much excitement 🙂 She did eventually get to come inside and by then, she was worn out and lazied around.

Once everyone arrived, I released the food and everyone started eating 🙂 Before too long, little man handed out the “snakes” from great-grandma so everyone could make noise and hit each other 🙂

I believe the little ones decided that the presents needed to be opened next…so that’s what we did! Tanner enjoyed “helping” little man open all his gifts 🙂

After presents, we sent the kiddos outside to burn off some energy! The adults just hung around the patio while the kids ran all over the yard 🙂 Tanner and little man took turns hitting the T-ball across the yard while the bigger kids played with the half-eaten Frisbees and new soccer ball 🙂

What can I say?! My kid is a natural – which the hubs will be quite happy with since he was a baseball player in school 🙂

Now that everyone is cold and worn out, lets have some cake!!

After the sweets were inhaled, everyone got lost in conversation and playing 🙂 It is fun getting together with family…I just wish that it happened a little more often! Once everyone parted ways, it was time to clean up and prepare for the work week ahead…

The day ended with a bath and a dog run/jog/walk… Yep, I got my mile in for the day (finally!!).
