hawk fifty mile training + Knuckle Lights | w11

Starting the week off with a weekend injury isn’t fun…but with a 3-times-a-day antibiotic and a big weekend event, I was ready to get through it!

Weekly Workouts

Monday- OFF

As my rest day, I went for a walk…to the pharmacy… Since I fell last weekend, I needed to pick up an antibiotic – my medicine buddy for the next 7 days (smh…).

Tuesday- 4 morning miles with my pal Angie!

Other than my fall last weekend, this was one of the first times I was able to get out and run with my new Knuckle Lights Colors! Check out my review below!

Wednesday- Waking up with thunder outside, I didn’t realize that we were expecting bad weather… Oh well, when I finally got out of bed and out of the house, I didn’t have time for my full 10 miles.

Once at the gym, I decided to mix up today and tomorrow’s workouts…8 today, 10 tomorrow. Who knew it would take 6 miles on the treadmill before I was able to just in a good rhythm! Sheesh…the treadmill is no joke…good thing I found a new show to watch on Netflix ; )

Well…change of plans (isn’t that how it always happens?!).

Yesterday, my husband decided to start running. Yes, yesterday : ) So he ran 3 miles (between 2 different runs) – he is sore, chaffed, but determined to keep going!

So after he got off work around 8 pm, he came home, changed, and we all went out for a couple miles! Is this what dreams are made of?! Ha! If this keeps up, we are going to have to plan who runs when so we both can get out… : )

The added bonus on this fun-filled day is that I received my new Burley Solstice stroller!! I won a giveaway hosted by Another Mother Runner (a podcast I recently finished binging on) and I was the big winner! Just the other week, I was complaining about how much I disliked my jogging stroller and BAM, I won a bright and shiny new one! It is so easy to run with! I just need cup holders… : )

Thursday- No morning run…the snooze button won the morning battle and I lazied around the house until I needed to get ready for work. No shame. I packed up a bag for an early lunch run…

And holy heat…I am not sure that I am ready for this weekend – but I will never know until I start!!

When the hubs got home from work, he up for a run! We headed out and I was able to get in a couple more miles for today! Yeah, I am short from what my day was scheduled for, but with my 50K in 2 days, I am okay with missing a couple miles : )

Friday- OFF

I PLANNED on going to the gym and just sitting in the sauna…but it just didn’t happen. Instead, I tidied up the house, did some laundry and dishes, packed up my weekend bags (little man and I), and took little man to daycare.

Tonight is packet pick-up for tomorrow’s Psycho Psummer 50K…and on boy am I nervous! I hope these tummy-churning anxieties calm down tonight…

Saturday- Psycho Psummer 50K

Holy hot race!

There were some killer hills, rocky climbs, rugged descents, lots of heat, and tons of positive vibes and help from the awesome aid stations!

I was able to finish the course in 8:58:44 – within the 9 hour cutoff – the last official finisher! Yeah, there were other finishers behind me, but I was the last one in the cutoff time.

Sunday- OFF

Between sleeping in, hanging out with friends and family, and driving back home, getting out for a run just didn’t happen!

Weekly Miles : 51 miles

1348 / 2,016 miles in 2016

Next Week’s Projected Workouts

Good thing this coming week is a down week for miles…I could use a little extra rest… Except, since I didn’t get out Sunday for my run, I plan to make that up on Monday : )

Monday- OFF (cross training or yoga)
Tuesday- 4 miles
Wednesday- 10 miles
Thursday- 6 miles
Friday- OFF (cross training or yoga)
Saturday10 miles
Sunday- 8 miles

Knuckle Lights Colors | Review

I am a morning runner.

Or at least as much as my body allows me to be : )

This summer, I have found that I am more comfortable using a light to help other people, cars, or animals see me coming as well as light my way. Plus, to beat the heat, I have been getting out earlier!

I have been running with my new Knuckle Lights Colors off and on for a couple weeks now, and I am impressed with how bright my running path has become!

The Details (from their website)

  • 2 LIGHTS PER SET
  • 120 TOTAL LUMENS
  • BATTERIES INCLUDED
  • WATERPROOF

When my lights arrived, I wanted to head out for a run,…but I needed to wait until the next morning…

The next day, I headed out for our maiden voyage with my new hot pink Knuckle Lights colors! I first loaded up the single AA battery (provided) in each light. Thank goodness Knuckle Lights provided the batteries, because I am always searching for new ones around our house…

With a few clicks, I verified that they worked – super bright, less bright, and blinking.

The next feature that I noticed was that the two lights are magnetic to one another. This will be great when packing these lights in my pack or weekend travel bag. Less digging to find both lights – they will be sticking together!

While I love using my new Knuckle Lights on the road, I had less luck with them on the trail. I wouldn’t blame my crash last weekend on the trail not being lit (mostly just my clumsiness), but I wished that I would have had a brighter light when dealing with rough, uneven ground.

These little lights are perfect for all weather! While I have been in the hot and sweaty part of the country, I look forward to using these through this fall and winter without issues! Check out what other BibRave Pros are saying about their Knuckle Light Colors

  1. Holey moley. a 50K!! Congrats on a great accomplishment.

    Hope you leg heals quickly.

I’ve heard good things about knuckle lights. Maybe if I get a pair, that would motivate me to get up early and run before work.

    Thanks for linking up.

  2. Congrats on your trail race! The bottle opener medal is legit 😉 I love your pink wrap (?) on you leg…is that an actual wrap or compression sleeve of some sort? It’s a lot prettier than the dorky white/beige compression sleeves I’ve been sporting lately on my recovering knee (and vicinity).

  3. How cool you won that awesome stroller! I have no doubt it will see a ton of miles! Congrats on your 50k trail race. That’s such a long time to be on your feet. You crushed it! And I totally believe the 10 pounds of sweat!
