Summer running is HOT in Kansas – there is no question about that.

Since I am training for my first 100 miler this September, I have a big focus on hydration.

How do you prehydrate, hydrate during, and rehydrate after your sweaty, sweaty miles on the road or trail??

There are a few things that I look for in a hydration drink in the summer :

  • sodium
  • magnesium
  • potassium

Ultima contains 6 electrolytes including 100 mg Magnesium, 250 mg Potassium and 55 mg Sodium (also Chloride, Calcium, and Phosphorus) – perfect! Another bonus is that Ultima is keto-friendly, vegan, paleo-friendly, sugar-free, gluten-free, non-GMO, and zero calorie with no artificial flavors.

I was sent a variety pack of flavors including : 

  • lemonade
  • orange
  • grape
  • raspberry
  • cherry pomegranate

I really enjoyed all of the flavors Ultima offers, but I found that I needed to mix the packet with a little more water than suggested. Mix to your taste for sure. My favorite flavor is the refreshing lemonade after a hot, hot summer run!

While I am the one in our house doing the running, I tend to have an active family! While little man enjoys the Ultima flavors mixed with water, I wanted to make something a little more fun for a post-activity snack.

A summer treat I grew up with was jell-o… So I tried my hand at making a jell-o-like snack with Ultima Rehydrate! With little man’s help, we created these tasty treats.

Ultima Gelatin Snack

Ingredients :

  • 1 envelope plain (unflavored) gelatin
  • 1/2 cup near-boiling water
  • 1.5 cups water
  • 1-2 servings of Ultima, flavor of choice

Instructions :

  1. In a medium bowl, add 1.5 cups water, Ultima, and stir until dissolved
  2. In a small bowl, dissolve the gelatin in the 1/2 cup near-boiling water. The gelatin will thicken quickly – stir well
  3. Add gelatin mixture to the Ultima mixture
  4. Transfer the liquid to a pan, silicone mold, or whatever you make your gelatin treats in
  5. Place in the refrigerator for several hours or overnight until set
  6. Enjoy after your workout for recovery – or anytime!
