tapering with Knockaround
By the time you are reading this, I am in my FINAL week of “training” before my first 100 miler! The time has FLOWN this summer…and I sure hope my hard work pays off in the end.
Training for 100 miles isn’t a cheap endeavour…but I am all about keeping my running “hobby” as cheap as I can. With new shoes, watches, gear, tech and beyond, funds can add up fast! And in reality, some things don’t last ALL that long before they break, get lost, or get taken borrowed by a random family member.
One of these running “necessities” is sunglasses!
I am all about running in the early morning darkness, but many of my runs happen to be in the middle of the day – so sun protection for my eyes is important. When we were given the opportunity to try Knockaround sunglasses, I jumped! With frames starting around $15 (or $5 if you catch one of their amazing sales!!), they are super affordable!
Your next question might be “Well if they are cheap, are they cheap?” Simple answer, no.
The lightweight knockaround frames are sturdy little boogers – and while I accidentally ripped off one of the frame arms, I was able to pop it back into place! Even if they were completely broken, I wouldn’t have to pay an arm and a leg to get a new pair…
“Growing up, my dad had a pair of sneakers in the garage that he’d wear when he mowed the lawn. He called them his ‘knockaround’ sneakers—you could count on them, they were dependable, and you didn’t care if they got beaten up.
So, I just applied that idea to sunglasses. I wanted them to be affordable, if you lost them or broke them, no big deal. The Knockaround name seemed like a natural fit—like, I’m just going to knock around this pair of sunglasses.”
Adam “Ace” Moyer, Founder
Through this taper cycle, I have still been able to keep up wearing my Knockaround sunglasses. They are great for an afternoon run but they are equally as great while out for a walk, carrying your kiddo around the lake, driving around town, and everyday activities! What more could you ask for :
- Premium Knockaround shades are an update to the Knockaround Classics
- wide, unisex styling
- a TON of different colors – even custom options!
- nice fabric case included
- FDA-approved, impact resistant lenses
- UV400 protective
- polarized options
- comfortable refined arms
- form-fitting frames

The taper crazies has set in BIG TIME and I am wanting to run more and more…while I know I should be resting my legs. With last weekend’s missed run, I didn’t put too much negativity on it…extra rest if good, and I got some decent sleep that night too! Sleep is another thing that I have been focusing on in this taper cycle. Healing the body and mind – I will need all the strength and stamina I can get!
Let’s run taper!
Monday
Scheduled : OFF
Actual : 3 miles
Due to my missed run yesterday, my legs feel a bit fidgety…so I went out for a short lunch run. Good thing the heat is back and it quickly assists me back to work…ha!
Tuesday
Scheduled : 6 miles
Actual : OFF
Jury selection + Day 1 of jury duty…I thought about running early, but I just didn’t get out. Then I planned on running later…but I just didn’t.
Wednesday
Scheduled : 8 miles
Actual : 6 miles + 2 miles
Day 2 of jury duty…when I walked outside to get some sinus meds, the chill was welcoming! I totally WISH I would have gotten out of bed to take advantage of the AMAZING morning temps! After jury duty was complete (college town + cheap drinks = drunk fights), I was able to head out for a run! I ran 6 solo (to daycare), picked up little man and we walked to the park, played, and walked home ♥
Thursday
Scheduled : 6 miles
Actual : 3 miles
A long, busy work day. Back to work from jury duty the past 2…so lots of emails to catch up on. A short run on my lunch break is the only time for me to decompress…thank goodness.
Friday
Scheduled : 4 miles
Actual : 4 miles
I was somehow able to get up and run before starting my long Friday routine – get little man around to daycare, drive to KC to be with my dad during his chemo treatment, run his errands, and come back for an evening with little man.
Saturday
Scheduled : 13 miles
Actual : OFF
I am perhaps taking the taper a little harder than before…but I could really use the sleep…
Sunday
Scheduled : 10 miles
Actual : OFF
Weekly Miles : 18 miles
100m Training Miles : 1039 miles
Annual Miles : 1688 miles (goal = 2,018 in 2018)

The glasses are cool. My training this week was a little tough but I know I will get past it and this week I will push to make it better.

I really like the clear frames look of the sun glasses you are wearing. I never buy expenses shades. They’re always falling off my head. But, one of my requirements is they work well as a headband. You’ve put in plenty of miles so enjoy that rest and taper! Thanks for linking!
