What to the WHAT?! Hospital Hill Run race weekend just ended – but don’t leave yet! Check out how the last week of training went 😉

Since this race is just a part of my 100 mile training plan, there was no taper and no cycle down…and because of the weather, I didn’t plan on running for a PR.

Let’s go!

weekly workouts : week 6 (may 28)

Monday
Scheduled : OFF
Actual : OFF

Tuesday
Scheduled : 10 miles
Actual : 10 miles

Oh yeah!! 10 morning miles to start the week off right!! This week is going to be a whirlwind…I was able to get out of bed with time to get in 4.5 miles before meeting up with a running buddy for the next 5 – and then the last 1/2 mile or so solo. It was a warmish morning, but with a storm front passing to the southeast, there was a welcome cool breeze ♥

Loving the COROS™ PACE! The screen is so clear and I am liking the scrolling data – I don’t have to push buttons while on the run, just wait a second or two to get the next screen’s info!

Wednesday
Scheduled : 8 miles
Actual : 8 miles

While I wouldn’t call today’s run “easy”…it was easier than last week’s 8 miler [the one cut down to 6]. the 100% humidity didn’t help, but the 60 degrees was pretty nice!

Thursday
Scheduled : 6 miles
Actual : 6 miles

Due to a long, restless night’s sleep, I started the day a little late – and went for an impromptu trail run. The Konza Prairie trails are usually good to me [especially my mind] and I needed some major trail therapy this morning. I was able to sort out my twisted mind and make a little more sense of a current difficult situation in my life… I might elaborate more in the future, but for now, I could use some prayers for healing and any positive vibes! ♥

Friday
Scheduled : 6 miles
Actual : 2 miles

I am back in KC today – earlier than expected for the races this weekend. I slept in a little, but with a day of appointments, I needed to get in a couple miles to help keep me sane today… I didn’t get the 3 miles I set out for, but I was okay with it.

On the other hand, they postponed the 5K tonight due to the heat, humidity, dew point, and an ozone alert. While I understand how hard it could be to cancel an event, the focus is on keeping the runners safe. The race was postponed until Saturday morning, but since I plan on running the half marathon, I will be automatically deferred for the 5K to 2019. I think the deferment plan goes above and beyond what the RD needed to for this race – and a great show of appreciation to the runners. We all sign the wavers that if the race is cancelled, you don’t get refunds…so it is nice that this race is offering deferments.

Saturday
Scheduled : 18 miles
Actual : 13.1 miles + 5 miles

After a rough start, the Hospital Hill Half Marathon, 7.7 mile, and 5K were off after a 30 minute delay for lightning in the area. I will post about my race experience this week – but overall, the weather and race turned out great!

After the race and a nap, I headed out to finish my miles for the day. I earned that 5K and ReRun medals in the heat of the day!

No automatic alt text available.

Sunday
Scheduled : 15 miles
Actual : 15
 miles

While I wanted to get out EARLY for this run [the temps were AMAZING], I couldn’t get going…and then I got to run in the heat of the day for the longest 15 miles in my life… It’s okay though, I can always use the time on my feet ♥

Weekly Miles : 62 miles
HHR mini cycle: 336 miles
100m Training Miles : 336 miles
Annual Miles : 985 miles (goal = 2,018 in 2018)

  1. The humidity and heat have really taken a toll on a lot of runners already this summer! It’s great that the RD let everyone defer. Last year, I had to DNS Grandma’s and there was a no deferment policy. That kind of bothered me.

I’m looking forward to the full recap!
